These are awesome! Thanks SOOO much!!! Any chance that you can compile them all into a single post when you're all done?

Jay has been adding them slowly to the first post in this thread. I'm sure he'll keep doing that as time permits.

Yea, its all in the main post.  I might be able to finish the Finale track tonight.  That one's actually pretty interesting.

I think that's intentional/I don't really hear a problem...? I can more or less conduct/beat my way through that passage and it all seems to add up okay.

EDIT: Still trying to figure out how to notate 0:27-0:29, but here's how I hear the bit from 0:30-0:38.

Screen Shot 2018-01-05 at 10.42.49 AM.png

Can't you hear that it's been digitally slowed down? There's a slight stutter to the music as the track has been dragged out to fit in a space larger than it was originally intended. It's intentional in that it was done so the music could hit sync points better but it's not how the music was conducted.

It would probably be clearer in a digital waveform where you can see the digital artifacts. I don't have the software that creates those (the purple and pink things).

I wish there was the Emperor's theme included! :( That really is the only thing I'd really want that I can think of from my two viewings of the movie.

I really loved how it sounded!

I thought it sounded a bit off, like it didn't quite match up, but after subsequent listens I've learned to let it go.

Ahh, sweet! Thanks for the heads up! And thanks for all the great work!

The Finale tracks are so radically different from each other that I'll be including both.  The OST for the regular tracklist and the alternate FYC finale as a "bonus track".  The pre-credits cue is longer on the OST, so that is the primary factor.

I'm curious to know why they are so different.  Maybe the Blu-ray will have yet a different version, like the TFA Blu-ray.

I agree that Yoda's theme is out of place.  I prefer the FYC Finale even with the obvious edit.

For me it's the Finale from FYC all the way, the Yoda's Theme has nothing to do here. Its presence in the Finale is an insult to my intelligence and my musical taste.

Lol, are you sure you aren't French?

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, mostly because I noticed you all talking about the FYC score. I was a little late to the party when it went up and now the entire album seems to have been taken down from the Disney Studio Awards website. At the very least, the ZIP file is no longer at the advertised location: http://disneystudiosawards.s3.amazonaws.com/thelastjedi_original_score.zip

Can any of you help me out with this, maybe direct me to a copy? I've been looking for the album to pop up everywhere else and obviously cannot afford the FYC cd release on Ebay. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks sir! I really appreciate this, I'd been searching the website source code and other places for quite some time. Now to listen to Holdo's Resolve a few dozen times. :)

So, all in all, this mildly expanded version doesn't seem essential.

Well, it includes a cue that's one of my favourites from the entire score.

It's not really a mildy expanded version, its more of an alternate version.  Tons of material from the OST isn't here at all, replaced without cues that werent't on the OST at all.

If you combine the two together you get an expanded version, though, and I would say unquestionably that is an improvement over just the OST alone.

And Quint, the tracks to check out first to showcase what the FYC offers the OST doesn't would certainly be "Holdo's Resolve " and "Rey's Journey".

So far only one copy has turned up on ebay, and it just sold yesterday for about a thousand US dollars.  If the person who bought it is a member of JWfan, they haven't announced as such as of yet.

I have no interesting in spending a thousand dollars on a film score CD.

More copies will show up on ebay as time goes on, they will sell for less and less money, and someone will share a lossless rip with the community, for sure.

Will they? Haven't there only been 3-4 copies of Rogue One in a year?

there's about 15 minutes of unreleased music on the FYC

not unsignificant

Is it really that much?

I thought the compilation I did was about 6 minutes more than the OST.

Must be missing something....

Thanks; I'll have to check when I'm home again. :D

I might wait until the Blu-ray features are announced to start a chronological edit, in case Rian successfully lobbied Disney to include an iso score track.

Maybe some clever Disney tech will master the director's commentary track in such a way that the score is isolated on the surrounds (left, right and rears) and put Rian's voice on the centre channel, then we'd have both on the one track!

Adding ‘Rey’s Journey’, ‘Holdo’s Resolve’ and having the FYC versions of ‘The Spark’ and ‘The Last Jedi’ really creates an awesome sequence of non-stop action material, holy crap. Just when you think you can’t have more orchestral stuff, Williams adds the choir to top it. It makes the whole thing feel much bigger than on the OST.

In comparison, I’d say that TFA’s action climax is a little underwhelming (even though the music itself is good). That one was more satisfying in its ending music. ‘Farewell and the trip’ + ‘Jedi Steps and Finale’ is just gold.

So true. In my playlist I dropped The Rebellion Is Reborn right before Rey's Journey, so it acts like an intermission or entr'acte cue—and then Rey's Journey kickstarts this awesome second act.

Yeah I'm not sure where I'll drop the concert suite for TLJ's expansion. It just doesn't fit at the end after the credits, which end on such a mysterious, incomplete note. TRIB kind of ruins that ending.

I suspect there will be some patches of consecutive underscore in the first half of the score where it will slot right in.

In my "combined" playlist, I put the concert suite "The Rebelion is reborn" right after "Old friends", finally at the same place JW chose to place it on the OST.

"Chronologically", what would be a better place?

Link to comment

In the end credits, since it's better than the arrangements of those themes in the credits ;)

But I think that's good placement.  Rose's theme doesn't really come into its own in full until The Fathiers, IMO, but the new Luke material shines much earlier.  Putting it right smack in the middle of (and, to avoid repetitious listening, somewhat separated from) the other "big" statements of those themes is the right call.
