I don't honestly know if I have a credit card linked to my iTunes account, because I haven't made an iTunes purchase since Deathly Hallows 1. Since you pay the money up front, they're essentially rechargeable gift cards that use the credit card company's system and therefore can be used anywhere that credit cards can be used.
