  1. 1. Do you own or plan to acquire a UHD Blu-ray capable home cinema system?

    • Yes, I do
    • No, 1080p Blu-ray is good enough.
    • No, I'll miss my 3D Blu-ray too much.
    • No, I've only got 720p capability and it looks mighty fine.
    • No, DVD rulez!
    • No, I'm still rocking a Laserdisc player!
    • No, VHS will return (just look at vinyl)!
    • What's UHD Blu-ray?

I own all consoles; my Xbox One X is my 4K player.

It has nothing to do with 'going against the grain.' Sony's console is just lightyears better than what Microsoft put out at launch. The message was already ruined by Don Mattrick, and they've been repairing their image with fan service ever since.

If that was true, there wouldn't be any Xbox fanboys.

No backwards compatibility? Really?

This is the only really bad thing about it. Hopefully PS5 will correct that.

What are you talking about? PS4 is about to break 100 million units sold. Xbox One is probably around 40-50 million.

Not in the base hardware, no. There is a PS Now subscription service that lets you play PS4 and PS3 games for a monthly fee.

The Dolby Atmos in Superman the movie is a travesty. It sounds nothing like the original  film.

The PS3 architecture is so convoluted that Sony is sort of just stuck with its repercussions even to this day. I mean, the best solution they could come up with for name changes is to potentially lose paid content, trophies, leaderboards, etc prior to April 1st, 2018. Took them 10 years to come up with that solution. They had zero foresight when they designed the PS3.

With all that being said, it’s the vocal minority that cares about these issues. 100 million units sold is no easy feat, and such problems have yet to stymie growth.

Atmos is a stupid gimmick. Is it even THX certified?

Atmos does well most of the time. It was effective in IT.

The video of It really stood out. I was surprised it was so good.

I'm sure it can contribute to a more immersive viewing, but I don't want 6 or 8 speakers in my living room.

That's why people go to some lengths to create a dedicated home theatre room.

I now have the screen but only one movie so it would be crazy to fork out more than 200 Euro for a player. I better wait for when my son buys some kind of next gen console that can play 4K Blu-ray or something.

Wonder if we'll ever get LOTR, SW OT and/or Indy on UHD Blu? Some classics like Ben Hur or The Ten Commandments? Catalogue stuff seems to be less and less likely. Depressing read this:

Lord Of The Rings is pretty much inevitable. WB loves releasing those movies every couple years.

I can't friggin buy everything over and over again, but I usually want ones like ID4, JP, SW, Godzilla, Trek etc in the best physical format available. Netflix is too unreliable to have anything decent listed, and if they do, before you know it, they've yanked it off!
