Bespin 8,480
Sorry, Mr teacher, the question is not quite clear. What do you mean? A top 10 of what?
The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
Top ten works. So really you could be as blunt as saying The Royal Fireworks but preferably specify. Ex. Overture from the Royal Fireworks. Sorry about the clarity. No real order is necessary. 1. Hornpipe II from Watermusic Suite ( Handel) 2. Canon in D (Pachelbel) 3. Badinerie (Bach) 4. Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah (Handel) 5. Toccata and Fugue (Bach) 6. Overture from The Royal Fireworks (Handel) 7. Allegro from Spring (Vivaldi) 8. Allegro from Winter (Vivaldi) 9.Allegro from La Notte Concerto (Vivaldi) 10. Presto Allegro from Summer (Vivaldi) Bespin

The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
I've heard of Scarlatti but I haven't heard Scarlatti. Braden burg Concertos are a yes especially No. 3 Allegro. The two Bach cantatas are very good ,yes. Is that the Te Deum Fanfare there? And I personally own the full double trumpet concerto by Vivaldi and it is really nice. The one I talk about is a Grand Motet, the first movements of these works are called "Symphonie", it's maybe the same I don't know how they say it in english. The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
Nor do I. Oh well I'm sure it's good. I think I'm thinking of something by M.A. charpentier.

The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
Similar, but not what I was thinking of.
Bespin 8,480
Well, all the Baroque works are similar... except J.S. Bach's works...
The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
Yep. Vivaldi is the strings. Bach always has the harpsichord in there. Handel has a very signature sound to it. It is probably the easiest time period to determine when listening to classical music. Unless you listen to modern classical like Einaudi.
Bespin 8,480
Ok call me by all the names you want... I listen to all my harpsichord works.. played on the piano. I haaaate harpischord so much I compare it to a middle age torture instrument. The Illustrious Jerry

Naïve Old Fart 9,502
HANDEL'S MESSIAH: it's really all you need, from that era. It's also a very strong candidate for the accolade "Greatest Single Composition In The History Of Music". Jurassic Shark
Bespin 8,480
I'll stop because you'll soon know all the tricks to torture me... Handel's Messiah, really? We should make a Top 10 of the most irritating classical compositions

bollemanneke 3,337
I used to love baroque music. Then I discovered film music and I've hated baroque ever since. Its obsession with structure just drives me mad.
Jurassic Shark 12,030
So you don't like JW's concert arrangements? They're usually quite classically structured.
bollemanneke 3,337
But they're much more exciting than any classical music written pre-1800s.
Jurassic Shark 12,030
Händel's Messiah is definitely exciting. And while Vivaldi has many not-that-interesting concertos, some of them are quite sublime. Like this one:
bollemanneke 3,337
Handel's Messiah isn't bad, but I sat through it live two years ago. There are no surprises anywhere and then I'm not even talking about the fact that the lyrics fit on, like, one page, and that it's a two/three-hours thing. The Illustrious Jerry 3,356
I'm going to see it live in April (Handel's Messiah). I think it's simply the name its made for itself is what puts it on the list for a lot of people. It's a bit of a default but its still good.
