Everything is available on the new set. Nope. Not quite. I mean, for most people these are not big deal at all, but again, technically speaking, it still contains clean unreleased music not on the LLL set: The film mix and edit of "Squeeze Play", which differs from the LLL set. A bit of the Shawm source cue that segues into "Discussing Black". Shawm is of course totally unreleased. As mentioned by others, the podcast includes the clean film edit of "Something Wicked Intro" into "Double Trouble". The segue is not actually a simple crossfade or overlay, a little more to it than that. It's mixed a bit different than what you can do with the LLL Set alone. Has a bit of the film version of "Up The Stairs" which is different in the film. It excludes the invisibility cloak synth for most of the track. The film version of "Reviewing the Recent Past", which has several instruments removed in the film version. I greatly appreciated this one tbh. Like I said. Not a big deal. Most don't give a damn about the film versions or edits, but some of them are technically unreleased and not possible to reproduce with the LLL set. I certainly utilized the podcast for my some of my edits, whether directly or as reference. So not everything is available on the set. All just a long winded way of saying, the title is still accurate. And there are quite a few PoA film versions / mixes that are still unreleased even with the podcast and the LLL set. Note: I am still utterly thrilled and amazed with the LLL release. So no one take this as a lack of appreciation for it. It's just factual that the podcast has unreleased stuff. Everything that most people care about is on the LLL Set. I am also aware that this post will probably open me up to many deserved snide comments. So...this should be fun! Brundlefly 2,385
Except the shawm cue, everything is on the set. A film edit or an alternate mix is nothing that can be considered "unreleased". I consider it unreleased, because unlike a burger, you can’t simply pluck instruments on or off. But to each there own. Some of them are different enough that I consider them their own thing. Like I said. I’m well aware I’m in the minority on this. Lol. So the comments are deserved. Once

The little discussion on changing chords was really illuminating too. Popular Post crumbs 14,315
@PoggoAOTS Hi Andrew! Apologies for being a pest -- just wondering if part two of your EMPIRE STRIKES BACK discussion might be coming in the foreseeable future? I know you guys are super busy so please know we love and appreciate all the work you put into these podcasts. In my opinion, you're unchallenged when it comes to the realm of film score podcasts, especially with the industry experience you 3 share. I'm assuming you guys have already recorded the episode but I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on JW's updated concert suite for Han Solo and the Princess, considering that theme originated in ESB and he chose to revise it nearly four decades later (with such melancholic heft). On a semi-related note, I saw that THE LAST JEDI was now available for live-to-picture performances. Are you allowed to say if the MSO has any plans to perform this score before year's end? I reckon the MSO would smash this score out of the park -- unlike the relatively restrained TFA, TLJ is brimming with orchestral highlights like Escape, Holdo's Resolve, The Spark and The Battle of Crait, where the orchestra takes centre stage. On a personal note, one of my favourite parts of seeing the MSO performance of THE FORCE AWAKENS at the Palais (other than your pre-concert discussion ) was knowing that John's score for TLJ was only one week away. It would be amazing if the same entree could be served before THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, potentially John's final entry in the main Star Wars saga... just saying. Popular Post PoggoAOTS 94
@crumbs Hey! So sorry for the continued delay. We actually have it recorded already (not surprisingly) but we have found it impossible to get it mixed/completed due to work commitments. Dan and Nick, for instance, have been travelling for work almost constantly since Part 1 of Empire came out. Myself, I've been neck deep in shows for work that I haven't got around to it as well. But! We have some others in the can now: - A live recording of a talk we gave for the Melbourne International Film Festival on the film music of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis - A *different* type of episode where we asked one of the composers we analysed to listen to "their" episode and then they talk us through piles of music that never made it into the score. Less an interview and more a dive into the creative process. - And, after Part 2 of Empire, we have another film lined up. This time an animated feature that has been requested a bunch. Plenty to come before the end of the year! Re: TLJ live to picture - Yes! (and i'm impressed you know the places that they are sourced from) I'm currently trying to find a spot in our season to put it on. This title was announced to the orchestras really late, and my planning is so far ahead, that i'm finding it difficult to get it in. To tie you over however, can I suggest that you head along to our Return of the Jedi live shows in November? Should be a blast! I'm even trying to get a Jabba funk band to play in the foyer as the "cantina" band. Fingers crossed! Fantastic analysis! Stoked they managed to fit that into the episode. Their thoughts completely align with mine on the revised HS&TP suite. It definitely feels like Williams revisiting the theme for narrative closure. There's a melancholic longing for happier times, representative of their doomed romance -- and the tragedy that would follow in its wake (not only the destruction wrought by their son but the death of Han at his hands and, indirectly, Luke's as well). It's hard not to think Williams was influenced by Carrie's passing as well. Perhaps the concert suite of Leia's Theme didn't carry the musical weight he felt Carrie deserved, opting to write a new arrangement of her love theme as a more fitting tribute.
