Yeah that's fine, I enjoyed Masters of the Universe, John Carter and Cutthroat Island, but they weren't in a hurry to make a sequel. And that's why people care, because a film's box office is the most accurate gauge into the general audience's interest in the film, and if it doesn't make the expected returns, then that has a significant influence on the TPTB and their decisions on the future direction of the franchise. In short, money talks. EDIT: and Independence Day Resurgence rightfully bombed hard. That'll teach them to make better movies next time.
