The Recording Academy™ will honor its 2018 Special Merit Awards recipients with GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends™, an awards ceremony and live tribute concert on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are Hal Blaine, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Louis Jordan, the Meters, Queen, and Tina Turner. Additional Special Merit Awards honorees to be celebrated include Bill Graham, Seymour Stein, and John Williams, who are this year’s Trustees Award honorees, and Tony Agnello and Richard Factor, who are the Technical GRAMMY Award recipients. Also being honored is Melissa Salguero, this year’s recipient of the Music Educator Award™. Led by GRAMMY®-nominated industry icon Greg Phillinganes as musical director, the tribute concert will feature rare performances by honorees and never-seen renditions by those they’ve inspired.

Anne Akiko Meyers, accompanied by the American Youth Orchestra will perform the theme from Schindler's List.

The show is to be broadcast as part of Great Performances series later in the year.

Awesome!  AYSO is an excellent ensemble so this will sound great too!  They did a fabulous job playing E.T. live to film last year.

Anne Akiko Meyers To Perform Tribute To John Williams At 2018 GRAMMY Salute To Music Legends

I was lucky enough to attend the Grammy Tribute last night. John Williams attended! He also gave a wonderful speech which paid tribute to the orchestras he has worked with. He was introduced by Gustav Dudamel. 

The event was surprisingly underattended. We were invited to move to a closer section to fill in the seats for the camera. 

Other attendees included Neil Diamond (who performed "Daydream Believer" with Micky Dolenz followed by "Sweet Caroline"), Emmylou Harris, The Meters and Sammy Hagar. Tina Turner accepted by video but nobody from Queen participated. We instead had to suffer through an uninspired "We Will Rock You" led by Sammy Hagar. 

The main point though: John Williams was present and it was a wonderful evening. 

I stole a few pictures but this it it because i didn't want to fall prey to their no camera policy.

I wonder if the Air and Simple Gifts performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Quartet is the arrangement John Williams wrote for Barack Obama's inauguration.
