It seems to me, though, that many people who see the greatness of WH miss the greatness of SPR! These two scores are actually surprisingly similar, in the way they use horns, trumpets, military drums, and strings to evoke various emotions related to war.

I agree!  I think War Horse is a little bit more accessible, as it were.  Has more recognizable themes to latch onto.
