This is not even the first time on this site that I’ve specifically talked about torrenting a Trek show because I’ll never subscribe to CBS All Access.

Nearly 80 though? Sorry to be that guy, but wouldn't Picard be well retired at this point?

In the 24th century people live well past 100.

A permanent record of his intention to commit an act of piracy.

Remember that Star Trek movie where they were too cheap to remove the blue screens from the set in the film's climax, so they just said they were "part of the ship's design"? LOL.

No but seriously, how many shows are there centred around very old people? The Golden Girls? I'm not taking the piss here, I'm genuinely wondering about this new idea's chances in a Netflix and Amazon streaming world. It isn't 1992 anymore.

I honestly think they are supposed to be part of the ship's design. Compare it to the bridge when Worf is fighting all those weirdos. It looks like blue screen but it wouldn't make any sense for it to be space windows, so I just assume they wanted blue and grey interior like on Rufio's ship.

I found this on The Trek BBS.

No sources are cited though:

Greenscreen was commonly used from about TRUE LIES onward, for film projects as well as others. What is of interest in this case is that if you look at shots from making of INS, the collector set utilized GREENSCREEN at the bottom. Why put bluescreen around the sides if you have greenscreen at the bottom? NO REASON WHATSOEVER. So the blue was an 'artistic' choice, albeit a sucky one, just like all those cookie-cutter hex shapes all over the Son'a ships.

The notion that any effects comps were cut due to cost issues are ludicrous, since Par was willing and able to spend between 7 & 12 mil in the last few weeks before release to fix the perceived faults, driving the budget up from the 58mil that Berman started admitting was the ACTUAL cost as soon as they saw the movie wasn't going to do the business that would let them say it cost 65-70mil.

I remember that photo showing the greenscreen; it was draped rather haphazardly at the bottom of the set and used to add a CGI set extension (which, it must be noted, had CG versions of the purported "bluescreen" in it.) . I must say I've never heard of a set mixing and matching blue- and greenscreen like that before, so it seems plausible that the blue was just a really terrible design choice.

EDIT: in fact, here's an image showing exactly that. Probably the one I'm thinking of.

So that's why you were in jail when you had your "timeout" from JWFan... ;)

What makes a guy who does Shakespeare to great acclaim dabble with this?

Star Trek & Shakespeare go together like Spielberg and Williams. Jedi and light sabres. HBO and soft porn.

It all might be a bit intellectual for you if I'm honest.

When there's no shortage of salted olives, there's usually a surplus of domesticated cats. Think about that and you will find enlightenment.

Only a foolhardy tradesman from Coolgardie would disagree with such sensibility.

What an utterly awful design choice. Not sure what's worse; intentionally designing the ship to look like a giant bluescreen, or being too cheap to replace the bluescreen with something else?

Their attempt to try and hide the greenscreen in The Last Jedi was really embarrassing.

Loads of money, fame.... a legacy.

I guess he's got enough money, and enough project opportunities for his age, both on film and on stage. From his statement, it sounds like he's genuinely interested in taking up the character again, so that at least makes me cautiously optimistic.

They just lazily changed the greenscreen to red instead of putting something interesting in the background lol

What? That entire set is a scale miniature.
