pete 902
Markings, The Chairman’s Waltz, A Prayer for Peace, and a shorter Hedwig’s Theme were definitely recorded. Spielberg walked in on them practicing Remembrances. A photo of sheet music ends with the word “princess” so probably Hán Solo and the Princess. She mentioned Leia’s theme at some point, but I guess could have meant Luke and Leia. SteveMc, Once and Will

Popular Post crumbs 14,289
I can understand if, say, 2 or 3 tracks were dropped that they just decided some things weren't worth releasing on the CD. But the sheer amount of missing music screams "being held back for a 2nd release!" to me. Why bother asking Williams to write so many new arrangements, then spending the money to record them professionally with an orchestra, only to drop them entirely? HS & the Princess, Remembrances, Prayer for Piece, Yoda's Theme and Markings aren't included in the Tanglewood or Munich programs (which are nearly identical). But they might be performed as encores. Just Down West Street (Tanglewood) / "Star Wars" Main Theme (Munich) Theme from “Jurassic Park” Rey’s Theme from “Star Wars Episode VII” Across the Stars from "Star Wars Episode II" Donnybrook Fair from “Far & Away” Harry’s Wondrous World from “Harry Potter” Night Journeys from “Dracula” Sayuri’s Theme from “Memoirs of a Geisha” The Devil’s Dance from “Witches of Eastwick” Superman March Theme from “Sabrina” Princess Leia’s Theme from “Star Wars Episode IV” The Duel from “The Adventures of Tintin” The Flying Theme from “E.T.” The Chairman’s Waltz from “Memoirs of a Geisha” Love Theme from “Cinderella Liberty” Hedwig's Theme from "Harry Potter" 9 hours ago, pete said: She mentioned Leia’s theme at some point, but I guess could have meant Luke and Leia. Leia's Theme will be performed live. So if they actually recorded it along with the other aforementioned pieces, a second volume might include the following (*): Just Down West Street Theme from “Jurassic Park” Harry’s Wondrous World from “Harry Potter” The Devil’s Dance from “Witches of Eastwick” Princess Leia’s Theme from “Star Wars Episode IV” The Flying Theme from “E.T.” The Chairman’s Waltz from “Memoirs of a Geisha” Remembrances from "Munich" A Prayer for Piece from "Munich" Han Solo and the Princess from "Star Wars Episode V" "Markings" (*) I don't think the Star Wars and Superman themes will be performed live as violin arrangements. Pawel P. 738
I’m sure that Theme from “Jurassic Park”, Harry’s Wondrous World from “Harry Potter”, The Devil’s Dance from “Witches of Eastwick”, Superman March and The Flying Theme from “E.T.” will be performed as regular arrangements we’ve known and love for years. Also Just Down West Street... Anne Sophie will need breaks between the performances, this is normal. We''ll definitely hear Princess Leia’s Theme, which will not be on the album. That's good news. I still hope that the concert in Tanglewood will be recorded in HD, like many others that took place there. Ricard and SteveMc

I think you're right that all the above mentioned pieces will be the standard versions. The only one which could be adapted as a violin piece is the Devil's Dance (which was already adapted by JW for violin and piano for Gil Shaham). As for the pieces recorded that will not end up on the album, who knows... it could be for a wide variety of reasons. I think Markings could appear on a separate release together with other concert pieces performed by ASM. I certainly won't expect a Volume 2 anytime soon. Biodome 714
I was totally disinterested in this album at first, thinking that it would be nothing more than a glorified violin solo of the popular themes. But all these virtuosic samples, and tons of new material within them convinced me to pre-order it asap. I love how experimental John Williams is with these arrangements, and I'm already craving for more! Will and Once
Popular Post crumbs 14,289
Gorgeous! That orchestral swell from 2:05 is absolutely sublime! The darker cello ending took me by surprise. I really love that Williams was actively re-arranging this particular theme right before starting TROS; it should mean lots of fertile ideas were bubbling around his head for Rey's Theme in the final score. Even after two scores and nearly four years of living with it, this theme remains remarkably fresh and versatile to my ears (compared to, say, Hedwig's Theme, which you've heard more than enough by the time you finish COS). It's a genius late-career piece from the Maestro, multifaceted and brimming with potential. Bayesian, Falstaft, Once and 3 others
