Watch the new release come out and reveal that Ken Thorne never actually did the whole score, it was Williams himself ;)

Or that Williams actually scored certain sequences ;)

It is a legitimate JW release. Its far more legitimate than either SOLO, or ROGUE ONE.

None of these is a Williams release. LP releases also don't count. So far we got one Williams release from La-La Land which is Saving Private Ryan, the least exciting expansion ever.

SOLO, contains an original piece of music, by JW, so, yeah, it is a Williams release.

Do LP releases count? Depends on how much of a completest one is. Although I don't collect vinyl, I'd never want to diminish anyone who does, and I'd look down on those who do.

Okay, so the soundtrack of Wild at Heart is a Richard Strauss release?

No new music, no acknowlegdement.

Composed and conducted by JW. So I call it a collaboration.

Well that's where I put this album in JW's discography ;)

That wasn't an original piece of music for the film.  Do you not see the difference?

No.

What if you guys would consider II, III and IV as partial re-recordings?

Never!

Collaboration? I don't think there was any collaboration between Powell and Williams here. Williams composed a theme, and then Powell incorporated it into his score here and there.

You're noy busy telling on an expanded release thread, you have none of them? 🤣

Yes, I do. I was just kidding. But I still wouldn't quite consider Solo a John Williams release.

There was indeed collaboration between Williams and Powell, as himself recounted in several interviews. He was invited at JW's house, where the Maestro demoed the material at the piano and went through the composition. Then, Williams tried out his theme scoring a couple of sequences, which were used by Powell as a sort of template for the score.

As far as Superman II and III to be considered as Williams catalogue releases, well, it's a strange situation by itself. The Maestro himself didn't have any involvement whatsoever in both scores. His music was repurposed because, well, it's studio property and the producers went for a strange kind of approach rehashing almost all of his compositions for the first movie, but hired another composer to do the adaptation job. Superman III is a more substantially original work, as Ken Thorne wrote more new material, even though there are again large lift-offs from the first film's original score. So, both scores are technically speaking Williams' music rearranged/adapted by another composer.

IV is another kind of beast, actually. Williams had a direct involvement--he wrote new original material for the film and went through the spotting together with Sandy Courage to decide where to use the new themes, but left basically all the scoring duties to his friend and colleague.

Odd choice to put S:TM source material on Disc 2!  My only thought would be to keep S:TM at 2 discs vs 3 ?

They've also got nice high-res images of the set!

That is odd. Previously unreleased music from the Maestro included on disc 2 of this set? I am happy, yet confused. Why would all of those cues be included on this set and not the eventual definitive release of the Maestro’s score to Superman? Should I spend the money on this set just for all those cues.? The reason I ask is because LLL’s release of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is available to purchase on iTunes. I am wondering if this set will also be that way. Maybe I’ll wait a while.

Umm marketing ..this way they make us buy this 3disc set.... I was going to buy it anyways . But I would have preferred a 3disc set of the first film. Maybe it does not fit in just three discs....

Looks like Manakin Skywalker has the best one!

I love Williams 70s source music. Will definitely buy this, despite already having the Blue Box.  Makes me wonder if the eventual individual release of Superman The Movie will contain anymore surprises.

Cool! About five and a half minute of unreleased STM music. Yup, that’s probably worth money! Haha, what is wrong with us!

An odd thing to include as many have pointed out, but I’m glad none the less.

Since the number of times I’ve bought the Superman music isn’t quite up to the levels of Star Wars in my collection yet, I’ll cave and double dip.

Well some unreleased source music from Williams isn't exactly a selling point for me as I own the Blue Box already. I shall pass.

The Superman II score runs 79:56 as you can see, and LLL has a 79:00 pressing restriction per disc.
