scallenger 483
Never seen the film or heard the score before until just now hearing the OST, and based on that I may likely get this! I actually liked "Garbage" way back when, and had no idea they had done the title song (with Arnold)! It's like the perfect marriage imo, haha. And that he implemented it into the score, based on just the OST, is really cool cohesion.
Disco Stu 15,495
It's definitely one of the better Bond songs. I'm glad Arnold got to actually be involved with the theme song twice (this and Casino). Florian
scallenger 483
Yeah I do remember enjoying Casino Royale's score quite a bit with that included cohesion. Richard Penna 3,688
I had the TND boot at one point, and I even seem to have the OST archived in flac (meaning I have it on CD... god knows when I bought that) but I always found the score a bit too bombastic. I like White Knight and The Countdown but the score doesn't do a lot for me apart from that. I'm much more looking forward to TWINE.

crumbs 14,315
I'd buy Casino Royale in a heartbeat. Excellent score from Arnold. Here's hoping he returns for the next film. Newman started sounding very generic-action-movie by the end of Spectre, barely resembled a Bond score. Florian
Popular Post Jay 37,363
Neil did a brief Q&A about the release over in the FSM thread Quote What was the genesis of this project, and how did it fit into the timeline with the DAD project? Were there discussions about which one to release first - was it always the plan for DAD to come first? We're doing these one at a time. When DAD was finished, I was hoping for another Bond project but nothing is certain. Then we got word we could work on this one. I'm back to being hopeful. How involved was David Arnold in this process from start to finish? I updated David at every opportunity. He's heard, commented and changed multiple masters and reviewed all of the artwork. This is the first time I've seen the title song in the correct place on a Bond album! How did this come about... I put it there and nobody said "No". Why is 'Welcome to Baku' (film version) on Disc 2 rather than on Disc 1 with the complete film score? My methodology on these releases is to be faithful to the original albums, which were produced by David Arnold. That's why on DAD in most cases, the original album versions are in the film sequence while the film versions are later. The "Welcome To Baku" in film sequence represents the full mix of the cue, which is what was intended. We had separate elements for this cue, so I could present a version without the vocal as a bonus. If any music was deleted for the album version then I like to put the expanded version in sequence. The sample of Orbis Non Sufficit on LLL's site sounds slightly different to the actual track used over the end credits. How did that come about? Our tapes had one take marked "End Credits". This is it. Like DAD (the cue titled "James Bond Returns") it was the very last thing on the tapes. These are the intended end titles. Most of what's here is in the film. It sounds like the opening in the film was replaced with something from "Tomorrow Never Dies". We couldn't do that. Were there any difficulties you had with missing music, different takes, or the state of the archival material? The computer broke just before we started transferring the DATs. Thankfully I had a back up. Was this easier, harder, or about the same to work on compared with DAD? About the same. I knew what to expect going in since I'd worked on DAD, so I was prepared. No two projects are the same, but these were close. And finally... did David Arnold have any interesting tales from his time composing this score? Read the liner notes! Thanks. You're welcome. Zanobard 71
I was wondering why the Orbis Non Sufficit sample sounded different, odd that they used music from Tomorrow Never Dies for the beginning of the film version (though I don't recall hearing that particular Bond Theme rendition in TND, could be wrong). It's a bit of a shame that we won't get the film version of the track for this release, but oh well.

Zanobard 71
Listening to Company Car now, I can definitely hear the similarity (the opening notes are spot on, for instance) but the TWINE end credits definitely sound a little different as the Bond theme plays out (tempo is a tad higher, more percussion in the background, small things like that). I'm probably just nitpicking at this point though. Florian

Quote "Submarine #1" has a clean ending and "Submarine #2" opens with previously unreleased music, which didn't sound good when combined so I kept them separate. For those that prefer the album version, it's included as disc 2, track 16. Placing a separate index is what was done for "Show Me The Money" and "Come In 007, Your Time Is Up". But here's the dirty little secret about those cues. It's really two separate cues that were combined with......a crossfade! And then we just indexed them to match the original album. I hope everyone enjoys the album! Neil stewdog1

Jay 37,363
First review from the FSM thread Quote Listening to the new edition now. I'm only up to "Submarine #2", but this expansion greatly improves upon the original release. The whole presentation just flows better musically. There's only one jarring exception: In the movie, "Balloon" transitioned seamlessly into "The World Is Not Enough" but not on the disc. Everything sounds fantastic. The orchestra sounds fuller, and the sound is so clear that, during faster-paced action passages, instruments don't get muddled but rather still stand out on their own. Very eager to hear the additional material. Oh wow...Gun Barrel (Separate Elements) is EXACTLY what it sounds like! 1:14 in length: The first 40 seconds are the orchestra only. Then, after a slight pause, it plays the synthesizer only portion. Very repetitive in the last 10 seconds, but it is definitely a cool addition to the set! The alternates for "Snow Business" and "Elektra's Theme" must just be small variations in performances or in the sound mixing because I can't really pinpoint the differences--at least not while casually listening to them. So they aren't major deviations or completely different musical ideas. "Pipeline" (full mix)--same thing. No huge differences jumped out at me. Now, the Arnold demos... "The World Is Not Enough": When the first few notes started, I immediately imagined a nightclub on the Love Boat! It has that kind of 1980s cruise ship, half-jazz and half-disco type of sound to it. It's hard to really like this version because I'm so used to Shirley Manson's singing, but this isn't a bad track by any means. "Only Myself to Blame": This time, I prefer Arnold's demo over the original. Walker's vocals were, IMO, too low and muddled, but Arnold's demo emphasizes the vocals without getting lost in the music. As for the music, you can hear "Casino" and "Elektra's Theme" more clearly in the demo. It also sounds like Arnold was more comfortable singing this track than the title track. There's more emotion and warmth in his voice here.
gkgyver 1,645
Only Myself To Blame is so nice. I miss the times when they put so much effort into the score that we occasionally got more than one song in a movie.
