Two Towers EE Appendices from 2003, talking about the London Oratory Boys Choir: They sung in a lot of scores, they sung for Harry Potter the week before. Huh? Two Towers was recorded in late 2002, where's the boy's choir in Chamber of Secrets? I can only think of the Hogwarts reveal in Flying Car but isn't that female choir like in the first one?

I would say everything was considered, but as you can see, there wouldn't have been room for it!  If we expanded COS To a 3disc set, it would have increased the price.  Increasing the price just for film edits of HP1 music used in HP2 would be pretty silly IMO.

@Jay, when you wrote the Azkaban set has every second of score that's in the movie, did you phrase it that way to exclude Hot Licourice only, or some source bits like the shawm, too?

 

We actually believed Parselmouth and Dormitory to have been tracked so far! Entering the Chamber is marked as tracked in the cue list:

You can tell from the film itself if you listen carefully all three are re-recording and not tracked.  I know the book says that cue was tracked, but it wasn't!  It probably was planned to be, but then Williams wrote the new string line and they recorded the whole piece anew.  Other than the string line, it's really all HP1 music, compositionally, of course.

Everywhere it says "TRACK" on that list is literally HP1 recordings re-edited for the COS scene.  Nothing new was ever recorded for those scenes.

 

Everywhere it says "UNDERSCORE" is new recordings conducted by William Ross at the COS sessions.  Unless it says OMIT for the cue name, in which case nothing was ever recorded.

 

The only mistake they made is labeling 8M2A The Chamber Opens as TRACK when it should say UNDERSCORE. 

 

That was one of the last things recorded at the sessions, hence my theory it was originally planned to be tracked and then JW wrote the new material late in the game.

 

That paperwork that got scanned for the book could be from before that decision was made.

I do know the answer, but don't really want to talk about what is or isn't on the set or where specific things are just yet.

 

My hope is people first put in each disc and listen to them as-is before beginning to break apart and re-customize them to their liking.

Not at all. I am excited about this set as it seems like the most lavish and comprehensive thing ever produced in relation to John Williams. I'm interested in exploring the previously unheard stuff, especially from the third score, as well as reading the notes. But I'm not a fan of the books (couldn't get past the first one!), I'm not really a fan of the films (some of them are ok) and it's not exactly a top shelf JW for me. I never actually listened to the leaked sessions, apart from some segment here and there. It's just not that important to me. The announcement of other JW expansions like Dracula, Close Encounters, A.I. and Jurassic Park received much stronger emotional reactions from me. But it looks like a wonderful presentation nonetheless and I'll still buy it the moment it comes out. For one, it might be a perfect opportunity to re-evaluate the scores. Second, I want more releases like this in the future.
