Mr. Who 919
I usually prefer listening to complete scores than to OSTs because with an OST you don't get the full picture and you might not get the best version of a cue. Many times the film version of a cue is much better than what we get on the OST. Thematic development is often ruined on a 1 hour OST because of chronology problems & missing music. Is this the same cue that was featured in the DVD documentary, with Anakin/Obi fighting atop the narrow bar then getting trapped at the end of the big metal structure after lava engulfs their path (the cue with those fantastic bells)? I can't think of any other unreleased music from their battle sequence (other than the edited stuff in Anakin v Obi Wan).

crumbs 14,313
How annoying. Both those cues would've added significantly to that OST presentation, plus an unedited version of Heroes Collide. It's interesting to see how Williams' Star Wars soundtrack assemblies have changed since becoming so involved with Matessino and expansions. Basically maxing out the album space, sticking to a mostly chronological presentation, and no longer reprising concert suites wholesale in the end credits. I guess he was really spoiled for choice with both scores, considering they're two of the longest scores in his career (if not the longest). Manakin Skywalker 4,892
To be fair, if I Am The Senate had been included, everyone would be wanting to hear Grievous and the Droids, which was not on the original tracklist.

Manakin Skywalker 4,892
Either way had it been unreleased we might not even known about the entire first half, aside from the sheet music and possibly video games. Popular Post Holko 9,526
So, The Prologue - Privet Drive: A unique hurried Hedwig A, ominous material and strikes, a unique Hedwig A on some sort of horn, a straightforward concert Hedwig A (first of those), a lullaby Hedwig A on oboe, unique sad material, a celesta Hedwig A buildup and a glorious Hedwig B statement. Every piece of Hedwig in here is completely different, some even completely unique. Visit to the Zoo - Nimbus 2000 development, then comes the straightforward concert Hedwig A again - for the second only time. Don't Burn My Letter - Dursley-ified Nimbus and general unique ominous material do a marvellous back-and forth with the concert Hedwig, constantly building, peaking in Letters from Hogwarts. Then, from Hagrid's Arrival onwards practically every single cue introduces new motifs or unique material or develops already heard material in new ways, when the Wizarding World finally burst the Muggle Bubble properly. The actual "repetitive" section takes up about 3-3.5 minutes of back-and forth with other, unique material and has a clear upward curve of building tension and almost aggression. This is all practically before we reach the 10-minute mark of this 135 minute score. I'm not finding that famed horrible repetition that was soo important to "fix" that it makes the heavily and bleedingly cut up OST so much better than this masterpiece of a complete score where practically every cue is a highlight and has something of interest going on. In fact, the OST edits TV Commercial, opening and ending with Hedwig A in practically the same setting as Letters from Hogwarts will be, into Prologue, over the shorter concert intro version which ends in a unique way with the repeated phrase (not to mention the jolly middle Wondrous World part which doesn't gel with the rest of Prologue in the slightest). bollemanneke, Smaug The Iron, Once and 1 other
Datameister 2,042
The repetition isn't "horrible" - I don't even dislike it. But it is there. Throw in the train ride to Hogwarts, and you've got what, five statements of the A theme copied verbatim from the same part of the trailer score, all in the first act? That's very atypical for Williams.
