Popular Post Dr. Rick 1,157
Delivered today! Just some quick pics, not professional by any means. I like the idea posted earlier about a separate cardboard box ala HP-style. I have no doubt that it would look absolutely glorious! The artwork for STM is stunning in person, esp the front cover. The blue tint of the sky background really stands out! Kudos LLL, MM, and Jim Titus! The Illustrious Jerry, MrJosh, mstrox and 5 others

MrJosh 892
I listened to the first 3 tracks last night, I think it sounds superb! The harp and bells sparkle, the percussion and low piano in track 2 have such weight and presence, feels like it's in the room with me. The strings have a real warmth and there's definitely more detail and separation. Excellent sound quality, very excited to listen to the rest later. rough cut 1,714
I haven’t got my set yet, but I am making due with this that I found on the internet. It’s what’s been keeping me from going crazy before I get the actual thing. I know it’s not the real thing, but at least it’s crystal clear - in it’s own way. It also lacks the bass that some of you have mentioned, which is annoying but - hey - what can you do? Sheet Music Boss (YouTube)

Popular Post Jay 37,352
Some more Mike tidbits from the FSM thread Quote Quote Quote Why would you score a sequence without seeing the whole thing? This is a pretty common practice; visual effects sequences are often finished way late in the game, and the score has to be recorded when the sessions are booked. In this case, my guess is that it was originally a different scene entirely, with young Clark discovering the Fortress already built. The cue summary in the spotting notes says "Clark finds fortress." For the revised cue it says "Clark throws crystal. Fortress builds." Perhaps after it was assembled, and as more of the movie was coming together, the filmmakers felt that this scene could be more dramatic and feature additional effects, so all of the miniatures of the beams rising up out of the ice, etc. were added. By this time, Williams was rethinking some of the cues such as the phantom zone material, the mugger scene, etc. Interesting that the motif in the cue, which is also heard in the music for the start of the trial sequence at the beginning of the film (not used in the final mix), bears a slight similarity to the one heard in the early sunset music from Star Wars. In that cue, the motif also reappears a bit later - in the scene where Luke discovers Threepio's severed arm after the Sand People attack. Finding and playing these cues were uncannily similar experiences, just 22 years apart! Quote Quote Mike! The cue list is terrific. There's nothing in here where I think "Well, I'll go back in and break up those cues myself later". Thanks for making The Crash Site separate and starting Luthor's Lethal Weapon where is does. (Is that really the original cue title? Or is that a Richard Donner joke? I'll have to look when I get home.) [...] Questions: Why are The Fortress of Solitude and Lex Luthor's Lair labeled "Extended Version"? Is that just to differentiate them from the Album? "Luthor's Lethal Weapon" is really Williams' original cue title! Separating it from the previous cue seemed to make sense given that there is an alternate of it. "(Extended Version)" is added to tracks that are principally the same as ones on the original album but are either longer or otherwise more reflective of what's heard in the film. This is an administrative thing. Ditto separating "The Crash Site" (Williams requested title change), which was not on the original album., so that is administrated by WB whereas "Growing Up" is with WMG. Quote Quote What was the level of involvement by Mr. Williams with this specific release (at least one cue title change, obviously), and what was his reaction to the discovery of the First Gen tapes? Fully supportive, thrilled the tapes were found, and as he was resting at home after his illness he sat and listened to the whole thing in November and loved it. I got a few notes about levels, but that's it apart from not liking the title "Baby Makes an Entrance." bollemanneke 3,343
Why is it required to have 'extended version' on expanded releases while OSTs don't seem to require it? For example, why do we have two 'Harry's Wondrous Worlds' cues on the OSTs even though they're different?

Jay 37,352
I received my copy in the mail yesterday - I had just uncovered our mailbox from the foot of snow we got not long before they came by, luckily! There's a very nice list of all the cues used to assemble the CDs, including the date each was recorded, it's reel/part number, and Williams' original cue name for each. Pretty neat! anironwaffle

Popular Post rough cut 1,714
@Jay If I might kindly suggest: Why don’t you reach out to Jim Titus for an interview about his work process for the different John Williams releases. The Second Disc published a story that goes into depth about the art created for the LLL E.T. release, including alternate cover art. I just love this article. Jim Titus is as much part of these releases as Mike Matessino. I’m sure there’s lots to tell about the other JW-releases as well. And it’s a long list: CE3K, A.I., Hook, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Empire of the Sun, 1941, The Fury, Home Alone Superman II/III & IV and now Superman. Jim Titus is the Man. ...and it would be great to get to know more about the history behind the different releases. anironwaffle, 1977, The Illustrious Jerry and 3 others
