Upcoming Television Shows (and general TV chitchat)

Yeah, for me, a reboot is Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Amazing Spider-Man, Ghostbusters 2016... The same characters, almost the same story you know and love, but with different actors and a different creative team.

When I read this new BSG was going to be a reboot, I thought it was going to tell the same story again of the Cylons destroying the 12 colonies, the survivals looking for the 13th colony while chased by Cylons, and new actors on the roles of Adama, Starbucks, etc.

For All Mankind trailer, the new sci-fi drama from Ronald D. Moore, creator of BSG 2004 and Outlander that will be an Apple TV+ exclusive:

I dunno, I'm not excited for none of the Apple series announced so far. The service will premiere here along with the US, but I don't think I'll be subscribing anytime soon.

I loved the two pilots RDM did after BSG (Virtuosity and 17th Precinct) but couldn't get into Outlander, so I'm cautiously optimistic

The Golden Compass was a film adaptation of the first 3/4s of the first book in a trilogy.  This is a new TV show adapting each book into a full season of TV.  It's a co-production between HBO and BBC

I haven't seen Peaky Blinders but was surprised the other day to see it's already had 5 seasons

Many think Peaky Blinders is the best show ever. I'm not one of them. I merely endure it because the kid likes it. We've seen 4 seasons and now season 5 is up.

Eh where dafuq did this suddenly come from?

This was actually made last year ... it premiered on Canadian telly on Sunday night and New Zealand will follow suit on Sunday night coming (ah, co-productions and their wily ways). Due on the Beeb in 'late 2019'.

As the first adaptation actually set in the novel's time and place (not counting the Jeff Wayne album), I'm looking forward to it.

Two New Seasons of Breakout Comedy Thriller "Search Party" Coming to HBO Max

Highly Anticipated Third Season to be Available on HBO Max at Launch As Well As All Episodes of First Two Seasons

LOS ANGELES - October 7, 2019 - HBO Max announced today that two more seasons of the critically beloved comedy Search Party will be coming to the streamer set to launch in Spring of 2020. The dark comedy about a group of privileged, self-absorbed twenty-somethings covering up a murder starring Alia Shawkat, Meredith Hagner, Brandon Micheal Hall, John Early and John Reynolds has repeatedly been hailed as one of television's best shows by publications including The New Yorker, New York Times, Vanity Fair, Vogue, GQ, NPR, and more.

"With HBO Max we have the unique opportunity to continue this brilliant, acclaimed series and connect with even more of the younger, digital natives who have worshipped it the most," said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max and president TNT, TBS and truTV.

Season three finds the gang swept up in the trial of the century after Dory and Drew are charged for the semi-accidental murder of a private investigator. As Elliott and Portia grapple with whether or not to testify as witnesses, the friends are pitted against each other and thrust into the national spotlight as notorious public figures. As Dory's sanity begins to fracture, it becomes increasingly clear that they may not have brunch together for quite some time.

"Search Party is alive and thriving!! We are so thrilled to show the world what we've been working on the past two years and for new fans to find it on HBO Max," said Sarah-Violet Bliss and Charles Rogers. "You're going to love the two new seasons, but if for some reason you don't, then you'll get your subscription fee back. Actually, that's not true. That's a joke. We don't have that kind of power."

In praise of the show's second season, reviewers have said the series is "a marvel in tonal balance, managing to be both grim and goofy" (Kevin Fallon, Daily Beast); "a strange and beguiling kind of pain, and I'm thoroughly hooked on it" (Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair); and "at once brooding and bleak and satirical and perceptive" (Margaret Lyons, New York Times).

Search Party is executive-produced by Sarah-Violet Bliss, Charles Rogers, Michael Showalter and Jax Media's Lilly Burns and Tony Hernandez.

I sit corrected. Although seeing as how it seems to be a cheapo straight-to-DVD number with a cast of absolute nobodies, made (given the year) to cash in on the Spielberg/Cruise version I'm forgiving myself for never having heard of it.

Sounds more like he's creating a TV series for Apple TV. If it was a movie then it's Spielberg (not Marty) who would claim that Cuaron doesn't deserve Oscars.

They need to sort out the title cards for these YouTube trailers, the play button is strategically placed over the characters' faces!
