I couldn't find this mentioned anywhere else and it's happening in my own backyard!  The Maestro himself will unfortunately not be in attendance but I plan on going!

Journey with conductor Keith Lockhart and “America’s Orchestra” through the magical film music of legendary composer John Williams. Boston Pops is the most recorded and arguably the most beloved orchestra in the country. March 24, the orchestra will celebrate the music and career of Williams, who succeeded Pops’ original conductor Arthur Fiedler in 1980, in addition to his Hollywood fame.

Still today, with countless Academy Awards and nominations under his belt, Williams is a living legend having continued the orchestra’s prolific recording tradition with a series of bestselling albums, broadened and updated the Pops repertoire, and entertained audiences with live orchestral accompaniment to film clips of memorable movie scenes—many of which featured iconic music from his own film scores and bringing a bit of Hollywood to the stage with appearances by Steven Spielberg, Darth Vader, and the like.

I went to the concert last night and it was fantastic!  The location of the concert hall allows for a wonderful view of the ever-changing downtown Austin skyline.  Took some pics before the concert started as well as during intermission.  I did NOT realize how high up we were in the balcony!  I do have a slight fear of heights so it definitely made my palms a little sweaty but the music took my mind off it for the most part LOL.

 

The orchestra played terrific, I didn’t notice any flaws in the performance.  I thought it was a good playlist to allow for solos throughout.  Keith Lockhart also got on the mic in between songs with stories, background info, etc. He was very entertaining and had some funny moments as well relating to the sale of their CD, kindly reminding folks that they were for sale down in the lobby after the show, and drawing some good laughs.  For the encore they played the SW Cantina Song and then finished with “The Eyes of Texas”, the university’s fight song.  

 

Taking a look at the program I found out there will be LTP concerts this fall and next spring for Close Encounters and Raiders of the Lost Ark, definitely plan on seeing those!

 

All in all it was a great evening, especially for this rookie whose never been to a concert for JW’s music!  I highly recommend going if it’s in your area!
