The things you come across when ordering poached egg on toast in the morning from the cafe across the road and you pick up a newspaper left by someone while you wait:

Not bad. But is La La Land that good?

I'll start with the 80s. It's probably the decade of cinema that I know the most.

In no particular order:

THE ABYSS

BROADCAST NEWS

LOCAL HERO

EMPIRE OF THE SUN

THE MOSQUITO COAST

DUNE

THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST

UNDER FIRE

BLADE RUNNER

BRAZIL

OK, so I overlap with Lee's magazine article, but, hey, great minds, eh? :)

Needs more

Mulholland Dr.

The Departed

Memento

The first two especially! are gold.

Maybe also...

The Goonies

Titanic

Black Swan didn't even make 2010, with how bad this decade was? Lol.

Some good sci-fi movies in 2010s though. Bladerunner 2049 and Interstellar.

I'm glad Star Wars and The Matrix are on this list. Not a total failure.

Thank you, @Glóin the Dark, for including Inherent Vice in your 2010s list...

You're welcome. Unfortunately, Under Fire won't be on my 80s list if I get that far, as I don't recall having seen it!

I see that Gloin has started the project anyway, even if no one has asked us to list our favourite movies in each decade. Only Quintus has that power.

No he didn't! It's a lie. He's done nothing wrong. Who is this "Richard", anyway? Is he a passenger?

I haven't seen every movie in this list, but I can find myself in Caché, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Kill Bill, Mulholland Drive, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, and Der Weisse Band, especially the ones I put in bold.

Alright. Whoever started it, I'm not participating untill Quintus says so. I think he just wanted to share something he found in a magazine while eating breakfast, not ask us to list our favourite films from every decade. There are RULES to how this works, dammit! 😬

Are there any of them that you've seen and think have no place on such a list?

I kinda disliked Inland Empire and In Bruges, even though I realize they are two JWFan classics

Pedant! I posted in haste with inadequate precision...

A very laudable attitude. It's anarchy here...

(I do hope that we haven't retrospectively ruined Quintus's breakfast.)

It's good but nowhere near "best film of the 2010s" good.

Maybe, but it's still one of my favourite movies of the decade. Probably my number one favourite.

Alright, then. Phew! :D

Guess I have a big job ahead of me, then. I have a feeling we've done similar threads before, but perhaps that was more about film scores?

Rather than have ranked lists for each decade, I find it easier to mention my favourite films of each year. Fortunately, I have the 2010s relatively easily accesible (below). For the rest, I need lots of time and lots of thought, so I'll return to that at a later date.

2010s:

2010: THE ROAD

2011: LE QUATTRO VOLTE

2012: PROMETHEUS

2013: GRAVITY

2014: LUCY

2015: EX MACHINA

2016: THE REVENANT

2017: ELLE

2018: THE POST

2019: THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT (So far. The year is still young, though)

Hey someone else that doesn’t despise Ocean’s Twelve! Nice to have another Soderbergh fan around.
