Planet Of The Apes - The Searchers, The Hunt

Add NO ESCAPE to that list. Astonishing piano work!

Why not? I did, and I never looked back.

It might not be the easiest one for someone really trying to latch on to Goldsmith to enjoy. There are better starting points, but I certainly agree. Planet of the Apes is probably one of my favourite Goldsmith scores.

I first saw POTA on TV in the 80s when I was a kid, the music stuck out to me then.  It's easily Jerry's best score, of the ones I have heard.

I mean listen to the Raisuli theme at 0:23 here! Damn. A better theme has rarely been written for the movies. So full of passion, majesty and grandeur. You have yourself a great story even if you just play this theme over black screen.

Nice theme, but don't like all of the orchestration.

I think I might where you're coming from, any specific moments?

Also, has anyone mentioned Islands in the Stream yet?

Count me down as someone whose first few Goldsmith scores included Planet of the Apes. Beautiful stuff, and I'll say this an endless amount of times here: _man_ do I want a modern re-recording of that score!

Pithikos released a re-recording of the score in 2016

Just unfortunate that only the percussion instruments are real, on that.

But it's got the piccolo part, man, _the_ piccolo part! If people knew that this album would hit Jay Z level!

Listening to the Star Trek scores, you could easily take them as just good Star Trek scores if you don't know that Goldsmith actually came up with the iconic theme.

I still ask myself!

Not funny.

I like Jerry Goldsmith, but for as much as he is revered by some I feel like I should enjoy him more.  Below are the soundtrack CDs of his that I have.  Aside from the main themes what are some of your favorite tracks from these scores?  Also, what soundtracks of Jerry's would you recommend I add to my collection?

Total Recall

^ The Dream (film version), The Implant, Clever Girl, The Johnnycab, The Treatment

Anyone else reckon people's collective interest in Goldsmith is slowly fading? He had a big post-death honeymoon period that lasted years where so many of his scores received lavish expanded treatments and re-releases, but when newer and younger members here list their favourite composers, he's more conspicuously absent in the conversation than he was about a decade ago. Is he now just stepping back into the status that North, Mancini, Herrmann, Rosza, etc now occupy? Well liked enough but not enough people care anymore sort of thing?

Goldsmith's music is too "masculine" for me. His "feminine" side don't show often in his music, compared to a more balanced composer ike John Williams.

What does the preference of who you date have to do with the preference of the music you listen to?

Wiliams isn't more balanced than Goldsmith.

It doesn't. It's a joke. :)
