What's so great about Jerry Goldsmith?

Why not? I did, and I never looked back.

It might not be the easiest one for someone really trying to latch on to Goldsmith to enjoy. There are better starting points, but I certainly agree. Planet of the Apes is probably one of my favourite Goldsmith scores.

Nice theme, but don't like all of the orchestration.

I think I might where you're coming from, any specific moments?

Also, has anyone mentioned Islands in the Stream yet?

Count me down as someone whose first few Goldsmith scores included Planet of the Apes. Beautiful stuff, and I'll say this an endless amount of times here: _man_ do I want a modern re-recording of that score!

Pithikos released a re-recording of the score in 2016

Listening to the Star Trek scores, you could easily take them as just good Star Trek scores if you don't know that Goldsmith actually came up with the iconic theme.

I like Jerry Goldsmith, but for as much as he is revered by some I feel like I should enjoy him more.  Below are the soundtrack CDs of his that I have.  Aside from the main themes what are some of your favorite tracks from these scores?  Also, what soundtracks of Jerry's would you recommend I add to my collection?

Total Recall

^ The Dream (film version), The Implant, Clever Girl, The Johnnycab, The Treatment

According to Steven Spielberg, JG is great because he's dead. Or was it the other way around? :sarcasm:

You think that the anecdote about how "they are all dead" reached Goldsmith a decade late and he decided that... that's the only way?
