What, nobody mentioned Jaws?

Marian - shocked, even though that score wasn't written by Mr. Willimas.

I know! Actually Jaws wasn´t written by Willimas, but our Johnny boy!!!!

From what i've seen, these "Must have" threads always end up turning into "My personal favourites". So i've just picked one which i think most people here would agree is a must have of Williams no matter what else he has produced. It really is just a coincidence that its one of my favourites. I primarily chose this is as if someone wanted to hear Williams work and wanted an introduction. If i was to give anyone a CD to introduce them to Williams, it would be this.

By the way, this may sound dumb, but is the Superman 2cd set worth it?

Uh oh get ready for a lecture from Neil once he gets here but until then I see that you need a good talking to.

If the 2CD set you speak of is this one...

Then I must say YES INDEED!!! This is easily Williams best re-release of a score. (Minus Raiders of course  ) and you must get it. Now.

Or else.

I agree with everything that's been said here (if it's Williams, it's must-have), but I would like to add Home Alone. It is a wonderful, wonderful score, ecpecially for the Christmas season. Somewhere in my Memory and Star of Bethlehem are priceless holiday themes, and the rest of the score is just as good. Also, no one has mentioned The Patriot. I would consider this a must-have, but many would disagree. It all comes down to personal opinion of course. Another very nice compilation album is Williams on Williams: The Classic Spielberg scores.

Ni it's not, you can easily do without scores like Lost In Space and Reivers.

I'm not sure The Cowboys belongs to "basics" either.

And scores like The poseidon adventure and The Towering inferno are hard to obtain, so i'd count them out. Besides, they are not that good.

To all the WILLIMAS jokers.... WELL SORRY I WROTE IT TOO FAST!

And yes i was talking about JOHN WILLIAMS

and what about 'try anything about john williams, you'll like it' thing? I'm already a John Williams fan!

As i suppose it was not self-explaining, i'll explain what i wanted ROTFLMAO

Tell me JOHN WILLIAMS must-haves, his best BEST BEST scores. I know all are good, but tell me the ones i have to have (and if i didn't it would be a sacrilege). Also tell me if they are out of print or very rare, just in case i find something rare (as Raiders that i bought yesterday)

I never heard the Superman soundtrack nor I have I watched the movie, some I'm kinda in the dark concerning the quality of the score, although everyone tells me it's great.

:) :biggrinflip: :) ROTFL

I can agree with the first line.

I can agree with the 2nd line.

I can agree with the 1st supposition in the 3rd line, and partially agree with the conclusion on the 4th line. Towering Inferno is awesome. It was the score that should have won the academy award in 1975. But that went to the Godfather 2 lovefest. And the awfully derivative Nina Rota score. Boring.

Joe, rising from the grave to strike fear in the heart of a 20 something dutchman, not named Roald or Oskar, who isn't delicate.
