magical_me and indy4, this is a terrible way to handle a difference of opinion. You should be telling the other person that he's dead wrong and saying all kinds of nasty things about each other. C'mon, this is JWFAN. Do it right.

Alan is right. I think that with all the heavy commercialism and cheer of Christmas spirit, we lost sight of the true meaning of JWFan. Consider this an apology, not only to Alan, but all those who feel poorly represented by MM's and my poor sense of Fandom.

Do you ever say anything that isn't sarcastic? Even though you're joking, it tends to wear thin and make you come off as bitter.

Eh, I think all of us tend to "wear thin" on each other at some point or other. Sarcasm's a way of making a point; it can work, and it can backfire, too -- maybe a lot. In all fairness, I think no more than half my posts -- and probably less, at that -- are truly sarcastic in nature. Yes, my sarcasm can reach excessive levels, but, then, I've also been excessive in my earnestness at times, too.

Anyway, I do appreciate your post.

Gosh, what were we thinking? Your brain is wrong and you're an awful person for not being me.

There, I think that fixed things. ;)

I just finished reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard. A thoroughly enjoyable and light read - not only are Dumbledore's notes insightful and humorous, but the stories themselves are well written and extremely true to the universe that Jo has created. Just the right mixture of bizarre humour, disturbing imagery and common sense that really gave her books their unique character.

Apology accepted.

Dammit, I really need to get BTB!!

Anyone who knows who wrote the music for the latest HP:HBP trailer? John Williams himself maybe??

:)

Good to see you can appreciate a joke

But who can tell me who wrote this music? I personally like the Hedwig's Theme variation.

Some lonely guy in a darkened room who hopes to one day find his way onto one of Hans Zimmer's cue sheets of course.

Yeah, I realise that's the extended picture. But that's not what's on the front cover.

Also, what are they both looking for? The Elder Wand? Doesn't make sense to me.

Yup, the Elder Wand. Both Harry and Voldemort are wandless in the picture.

So that's why Moaning Myrtle was giggling so much in the bathtub ...

By that logic, DH should be in glorious Technicolor!

Not if we go by the American variation like the one red_rabbit posted for HBP. DH will be in glorious greyish-blue! Or something else, I can't recall.

I wouldn't lend too much credit to the DP for the look of that trailer. The amount of color correcting done is mind blowing. Those are all digitally alter pictures. I imagine for the next couple of months the post production crew will just be having fun.

I'm losing interest in the film altogether.

No Williams, dodgy looking sfx sequences and a story where not much actually happens at all. Great.

Really? It is one of my fav books in the series. There much opportunity for humor and atmosphere as there was in the first 2 movies, only the characters have developed a lot more. And this one is really Snape's movie :P

Well, it certainly fairs better if you view it as one half of a story (with Deathly Hollows being the second half), but come on -

they find and destroy a couple horcruxes, Dumbledore dies, Snape is revealed to be evil

, a lot happens

Unfortunately, that only happens in the last 100 pages of a 600-page book.

The other 500 revolves around boring teenage romance.

I actually think the seventh book is much more dull especially as soon as they escape from the wedding, the story totally gets stuck.

I am trying to remember what happens, to be honest. They basically became whiny teenagers on "Survivor", am I correct?

Exactly. There's like 200 pp of that stuff.

It got a bit tedious, but I think it helped to offset the break-neck pace of the rest of book 7. Although there maybe could have been a little bit of trimming here and there.

The end with the battle at Hogwarts is of course amazing, but yes I feel the same about some redundant passages which could have been trimmed. Anyway, that's what they will do with the film :(

I used to not like the middle section of Book 7 either, but it's gotten better every time I've read it. You really feel their isolation and desperation, and Ron's return feels like the huge event it is.

This is true, btw.

See I never had a problem with HBP and DH's pacing because I was still sour from OotP's horrible editing. That book should have been half the length it was, and I think the editor was too scared to say this to the mighty JK Rowling.

I saw the trailer of HBP in the cinema. It's very bleak looking, all the colors are de-saturated. and that MV-ised Hedwig's Theme at the end..OMG that was awful

True, OotP was way to thick for it's story. Seen in that light the movie was quite a ride

Although I kind of like the what you call MV rendition (I certainly wouldn't classify it like that) I agree about the desaturated colours. It has been said here before, that it started with PAO already. Why do they do this? Is it the director of photography who is responsible for this or the editor? Why can't thecolors be just as bright as in the first 2 movies?

POA was dark and bleak, but it still had some decent colour and a touch of vibrancy to it that made it stylistically passable, but nothing to this extent.

So was Psycho:P

That's right. Reading HBP was like a waiting game for a pin to drop. I'm boggled that fans look at this tedious and overrated book with rose tinted specs.

That's how I felt about Order of the Phoenix. I loved HBP from beginning to end.

With the new innovations and better processing of film stocks often times the director of photography is not a hundred percent in control of the final image. However for this film they do have a new Cinematographer his work is very good and I personally think this film looks gorgeous, the sharpness of the image is great. I personally can't wait to see the entire thing. The cliff scene looks a little green to me but everything else seems gorgeous.

Is there anyone else who is interested to know who wrote the music for the latest HP trailer?

Yes! :shakehead:

...and all the important memory gazing. HBP is mainly a set-up for DH, but it works brillinatly as an entertaining and interesting read.

I got The Tales of Beedle the Bard a few days ago, can't wait to read it.

For the record, I have yet to be bored by a single punctuation mark from the HP series.
