The Chronological Film Score Thread

Wasn't the original release made up entirely out of re-recordings especially for the album?

Yes. But the point of the FSM article was that the album re-recordings were, in some ways, more pleasing as a listening experience than the shorter film versions. I happen to agree with that, and so the combo of film score tracks with the longer album tracks, sequenced into film order, is ideal for me. :)

As promised, The Patriot. I did this years ago but I'm sure it's still accurate. It's not like the music's changed since then.

1. Main Titles- Track 2 all

2. To Charlestown- Track 3 all

3. Redcoats at the Farm and The Death Of Thomas- Track 5- :46-end

4. Rescuing Gabriel- Track 9- 1:14-end

5. The Martins Ride to War- Track 12- 2:00-end (longer than the film version)

7. Recruiting the Parishoners- Track 6

8. Accuracy and Precision- Track 12- :00-1:59

9. Ann and Gabriel- Track 8

10. Tavington's Trap- Track 10- :00-2:00

11. Remebering the Wilderness- Track 9- :00- 1:13

12. Burning of the Plantation- Track 11

13. Susan Speaks- Track 14 all (contains both music tracked out of the film and an alternate version)

14. The Parish Church Aflame- Track 13

15. Gabriel's Revenge- Track 10- 2:01-end

16. Martin's Return- Track 4- :00-:50

17. Preparing for Battle- Track 7- 2:07-end

18. Tavington's Charge- Track 5- :00-:46

19. Surprise Counterattack- Track 7- :00-2:06

20. "Hold the line!"- Track 4- :51-end

21. Martin vs. Tavington- Track 15

22. Yorktown and The Return Home- Track 16

23. End Credits- Track 17

Track 1 is superflous, as it's exactly the same as the End Credits except for not having the fife and drum bit at the end, so do what you want with it. If you don't feel like doing the editing and are just looking for recommended CD order, I'd go with

2- 3- 5- 9- 6- 12- 8- 11- 14- 13- 10- 4- 7- 15- 16- 17

Thanks John! Though I prefer track 7 before track 4. ROTFLMAO

I've been listening to Memoirs yesterday here and there and have pretty much settled with

1 - 2 - 3 - 7 - 9 - 4 - 8 - 5 - 12 - 6 - 13 - 11 - 14 - 15 - 17 - 10 - 16 - (8) - 18

the parentheses denote a repeat playing of the Chairman's Waltz as in the beginning of the film credits. Optional.

Could someone list the order in which the Commemorative Edition of Gettysburg would be place in chronological film order? And could anyone tell me, if they have this, if General Lee's ride from the Confederate Troops is in this version?

That's me, Indy Fett. At the moment I could only find this from a previous thread (as I am away from home. I think it has changed slightly since first being posted early last year. I have also made three "new" cues which are:

"General Lee's Ride" (edited from the last track of Disc 1);

"Picketts Charge" (more accurate version edited from Battle of Little Round Top);

"End Credits (film version)" (DVD rip but could also be made from existing tracks on the cd's).

If you know where the three tracks at the bottom go let me know but March to Mortality was not used in the final film and I have also had trouble placing Kilrains Ride. Tracks 27 and 28 could also be out of sequence so beware. I do need to recheck the order they are listed in though but it gives you an idea of the general sequence.

GETTYSBURG Chronological Order

1. Main Title

2. Pickett's Complaint* (Pickett's complaint??? What complaint?? More like "Federal Cavalry")

3. Dawn

4. Men of Honour

5. Gettysburg Revisited*

6. Buford's Decisive Determination*

7. The First Battle

8. Old Friends*

9. Fife and Gun

10. Killer Angel

11. Battle Of Devil's Den

12. We Are The Flank

13. Charging up the Hill

14. They're Coming Again*

15. Refuse the Line*

16. Soldier's Irony and Close Call*

17. Battle for Little Round Top

18. Kathleen Mavourneen

19. We will Prevail*

20. Kilrain's Ride*? (unsure about this one)

21. From History To Legend

22. Fremantle and Armistead*

23. Message from Alexander*

24. Over the Fence

25. Hancock and Kemper are Hit*

26. Armistead is Hit*

27. General Lee at Twilight

28. General Lee's Solitude

29. Reunion and Finale

30. The Gettysburg Address*

* Disc 2 track

Unknown

To The Queen

Dixie

March To Mortality (not used?)

Thank you!!

Indiana, now realizing his stupidity that Lee's ride was in the original release all along. :)

I can't help you iwith The Queen, but Dixie was during the camp scene with the Confederate generals.

Hey, does anyone know if the soundtrack to Star Trek Next Generation - Encounter at Farpoint is in chronological order? I know that the end credits are placed in the middle of the CD, but wasn't sure if the other tracks are scattered or not. Anyone know?

18. Tavington's Charge- Track 5- :00-:46

Are you sure about that? Isn't Tavington's Charge the bit on the OST that has the heavy drum version of British Grenadiers and the fife version? From 1:28 to 1:47?

I always thought that the First 46 seconds of Track 5 were an alternate of 'Redcoats at the Farm.'

Link to comment

Yes, I'm sure. That first 46 seconds synchs up perfectly with Tavington's charge in the final battle.

As for the version that has the fifes playing, that was intended just where it is on the OST, when Martin's men ambush the British in the forest and it was tracked out of the final film. The heavy drums for the British troops, the fifes come in when the shooting starts, and the change to that final darker chord when the troops that are trying to surrender are killed in cold blood. It all synchs up perfectly.

John, from what I remember of Superman Returns...

"Little Secrets/Power of the Sun" are definitely two different cues, though I don't really know where the split is. "Power of the Sun" should come before "Saving the World." Switch "Bank Job" and "How Could You Leave Us?" "Tell Me Everything" should fit between "Memories" and "Rough Flight." Or it may precede both. I'm not sure about tracks 8-11 at all. "I Wanted You To Know" follows "In the Hands of Mortals." So here's a speculative order:

1. (1) Main Titles

2. (2) Memories

3. (7) Tell Me Everything

4. (3) Rough Flight

5. (4a) Little Secrets

6. (6) How Could You Leave Us?

7. (5) Bank Job

8. (8) You're Not One of Them

9. (9) Not Like the Train Set

10. (10) So Long Superman

11. (11) The People You Care For

12. (4b) Power of the Sun

13. (13) Saving the World

14. (14) In the Hands of Mortals

15. (12) I Wanted You To Know

16. (15) Reprise/Fly Away

I edited "Reprise/Fly Away" with "Main Titles" for a full statement of the march at the end. Much more satisfying. The "Main Titles" material will need a little volume boost to match up.

Without knowing where to edit "Little Secrets/Power of the Sun" (and if it's even feasible), I would leave the track in slot five. Too much choral stuff after "Bank Job," after all, blegh. In other words:

1-2-7-3-4-6-5-8-9-10-11-13-14-12-15

- Marc, who doesn't have that release.

You must seek out the original album. It is a great companion to the full score CD.

Cerrabore, here's the correct Superman Returns order (thanks to SoundtrackNet for clarifying):

1, 7, 2, 3, 8, 5, 6, 9, 11, 10, 4, 13, 14, 12, 15

Enjoy! :music:

(I put 4 - Little Secrets/Power of the Sun after 10 - So Long Superman because of the last half. You're right about it being two separate cues though)

Anybody figure out Pirates of the Caribbean 2's chrono. order yet? Here's my guess, after seeing the film once:

4, 10, 5, 1, 6, 7, 3, 8, 2, 9, 11

*Tracks 1 and 2 are suites, and not used in their entirety as heard on CD. It sounded like "Jack Sparrow" was used a bit when Jack was escaping the natives on the island, and "The Kraken" CD version was mostly the first attack.

The Lion King, anyone? Is the expanded album in the right order? Are there cues to be replaced by their counterparts on the OST? And where do the songs fit in?

And, someone know how to resample the cues from the expanded bootleg so as to fit the original speed?

Edit: And anybody figure out what cues the alternate cues are for? (It only says Alternate 1, Alternate 2 ...)

Also, if anyone knows of a place I can go to get translations (or meanings) of the track titles, that would be great.

I think 11 should come after 10. Track 11 (The People You Care For) is when Lois and Richard rescue Superman after he has gotten the crap beat out of him (which is track 10 "So Long Superman").

That's how I've always had it. I'm unsure of the exact placement of track 13, and I'm not sure track 15 is used entirely in the movie (it's probably a theme arrangement), but it fits best after 14. And 23 is used partly at the beginning, but the exact arrangement they have on the album is heard in the credits.

Does anyone know the order for Edward Scissorhands? I've been itching to get it right.

Edward Scissorhands:

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 6 – 10 – 5 – 8 – 9 – 17* – 12 – 7 – 11 – 13 – 14 – 15 – 16

* = while this song appears here in the film, I feel it disrupts the flow of the score – I’m much happier with it at the end. See what works for you. :)

A few tracks contain more than one cue – but no editing is required. For example, track 6 contains two separate “suburbia” cues, but they appear in the film in that order, and both between tracks 4 and 10 – split them up if you like, but I don’t feel it’s necessary.

No, it's not chrono. In fact it's very mixed up; most of the album consists of suites that comprise short bits used at various points in the movie, and it's a bit difficult to tell were each fragment went to.

Here's a try:

Track 1 starts with the main title, and then skips to one of the last scenes were Langdon is figuring out the cryptex in Westminster Abbey. The track title refers to a writing on Newton’s tomb, which is more or less visible during this scene.

Trach 3 depicts Silas whipping himself. The title refers to the toy Silas is using.

Track 4 (and possibly track 12) underscores Langdon's and Sophie's escape from the Louvre.

Track 5 is used either in the bank when the box containing the cryptex arrives, or in the library when Teibing starts his lecture. (Arcana means Secret)

Track 6: the flashbacks of the various witch-hunts, as told by Teabing. The title is the same as the title of the book that instructed the Inquisition on how to recognise and treat witches.

Parts of track 9 and 11 are used during Sophie's recollections of her childhood and her realisation of who she really is at Rosslyn Chapel. The ‘chalice’ in the title refers to Magdalene’s womb. ‘Rose of Arimathea’ points at Magdalene herself, as she was born in Arimathea.

Track 10 underscores the scene where Silas tries to escape from police, and accidentaly kills Aringarosa. A variation on it (without the voices) is used during the Smart-chase.

Track 13 depicts Langdon finding Magdalene's tomb at the end. ‘Chevaliers’ = hunters, ‘Sangrial’ = the Grail.

Track 14 is used first when Langdon and Sophie enter Westminster, and later during the last part of the end credits.

So you can’t really program this cd chrono; you would have to chop most cues into pieces - very complicated. But I think the score works great this way. Too bad the end titles of the movie don't start with the Kyrie; it works great after Chevaliers.

I *think* the expanded boot is more or less in order. I can't really help you much as the copy I have, I got from a Disney music fan who had already upped the tempos and renamed (and maybe rearranged) some of the tracks as well as the alternates (I'll have to check later, but I dont think she put 'alternate' in parentheses after renaming them). That, and the fact mine seems to be missing a few tracks compared to the Russians (I'm not sure whether its really missing or my source had joined some cues). I should be able to help you with the songs though, I'll get back to you later. :)

1 - 2 - 3 - 7 - 9 - 4 - 8 - 5 - 12 - 6 - 13 - 11 - 14 - 15 - 17 - 10 - 16 - (8) - 18

Ah, thanks. ;)

I'm not too sure about how accurate it is, but its more or less in the ballpark. :) I think some tracks are made up of separate cues which are joined on CD too as usual. :) I also put the (I think it was) unused cue 'A Dream Discarded' into where it would have been had it not been replaced with the unreleased music in film. :)

Thanks! Just FYI, I think there's some discusion as to whether that 2nd track is in fact an alternate for that mouse scene, or if it is an unused cue for before the Be Prepared cue.

Concerning the AI listing, you guys should check, on one of the pages of this thread, there are one or two links to a few threads on this order, there may be some inaccuracies in the complete cue list, but I'm not sure.

It's to bad a promo for this hasn't been leaked like one for the first score but I'm sure it's understandable since Elfman wants nothing to do with the Spider-Man stuff any more.
