The OFFICIAL "Casino Royale" (2006) Thread

I'm hoping it might be available for 11 Euros. Some chains really stunt with titles that are available at every other store.

If not, I might consider picking up the R3 for 15 Euro at CD-wow.

I have the orchestral version ripped from the dvd. Good stuff, but the vocal track is mixed a tad bit low.

And the movie was fantastic, by the way. I really hope Martin Campbell returns for the next one considering the other planned director dropped out.

Can someone who has the R1 DVD post the exact running time, (minutes and seconds), please? I have the R3 DVD, and I'd just like to find out if it has the longest available version of the film. I know it's longer than the R2 (and not just because of the PAL speed-up - there are definitely a few shots omitted from the R2 version), but I'd like to know whether the R1 or R3 is cut at all.

The R3 running time is 144 minutes, 25 seconds.

What parts have been cut? and why? Didn't know they still did that to Bond DVDs (after the UE came out).

I'll be ripping it this weekend I think. and I have an NTSC DVD.

Could you please hook me up with your version after you're done? ;)

I'm sorry - what?

In the UK version, definitely. The same as what was cut from the UK theatrical release.

The shot of Le Chiffre throwing the rope over Bond's shoulder and saying "such a waste" was cut from the UK cinema version and DVD. It's on the R3 DVD, I don't know about the R1.

Well, balls.

Looks like a trip to CD-Wow...

Looks like the R1 has the theatrical PG-13 cut, but the R3 has the original cut that was submitted to the ratings board and features a little more graphic torturing (at least I gather as much from here).

The stairwell fight is longer.

shows stuff that is not on the R1 disc, including the henchman landing on the floor and Obanno crashing into the glass window and later grabbing Vesper's ankle.

Why didn't they include the DTS track on the R1?

Also why didn't they make the DVD case the same design as the boxed set, especially since they are being released individually?

Answer: so they can re-release the boxed sets in a couple of years with Casino Royale added to the set.

They can't release Casino Royale as an Ultimate Edition for 5 years, as Sony owns the video rights for CR for that period, while MGM/FOX released the Ultimate Editions.

And Martin Campbell did an interview over the weekend where he confirmed another DVD release, and that he'll be recording a commentary for it.

So, if these minor rating cuts were done after the film was submitted, could we say the Full Uncut releas is the "director's cut" (as far as DC's go in a producer-controlled franchise like James Bond)?

So the R3 version is the one to have?

I've read complaints about the R3, because of all the audio crammed onto it, the video suffers a little. And apparently there is a drop out on the DTS track around the 135 minute mark.

That's what I'm slightly worrying about.

Can't they get anything right?!

I'll wait and see what the R2NL is going to cost.

Sounds like everyone got (slightly) screwed. I'll just stick with the R3 until a new edition comes along, which will hopefully fix all the issues.

So, er, why would they cut an ankle...?

So question is: what's worse: bad image quality and audio drop-out on R3, or ten seconds on R2?

I'm going for R2 I think.

It turns out the Dutch release is also uncut. I must have just missed the more violent bits at the store. Oh well, I'll still wait for my NTSC copy.

Does it have the shot cut from the UK release, from the torture scene?

I don't know. I haven't seen the Dutch release myself, but I've been informed it at least includes both Obanno grabbing Vesper's ankle, and the henchman landing on the floor. I'm going to assume it includes the complete torture scene. I at least seem to recall that "Such a shame" line from seeing it in theatres.

Is it me or it the only substandard thing about Casino Royale the artwork for filmposters and soundtrack and DVD covers?

Die Another Day had generic artwork, but this is actually a bit worse.

Stefan Cosman: enjoying his ripped and edited version of You Know My Name.

Yeah, the fake head on the second Casino Royale poster looked pretty bad.

I'm actually painting a CR poster in an art class. I just started it, so it won't be done for a while, but I'll post an image when I'm done. Don't get too excited, though, because I'm quite the amateur. Still, it should be fun to do.

Well, surprise, surprise!

The first double-dip DVD of Casino Royale has been announced.

The 3-Disc Collector's Edition of Bond 21 will be released on R1 DVD on June 3rd, including commentary, deleted scenes, storyboard comparisons and more.

Check out CommanderBond.net for details.

I don't quite understand why this has to be 3 discs.

It looks like this might easily fit onto two, and the original release should have had this content to begin with.

Not that we didn't all see this one coming...

The extra discs seem to be just more of the promotional fluff from the first set. I will rent it for the commentary, though.

So... Will the extra iTunes tracks that are not on the OST also be released in iTunes PLUS format? Because sound quality is crappy.

Or have they already been upgraded? I can't even find them anywhere in my iTunes...

I did, but nothing shows up - just twice (! - once for 8 euros, once for 10. Weird.) the original album. Is it possible that the expanded one is just on US iTunes?
