Depending on the time I have with him, I would:

- ask him to sign something

- chat with him-- about film music & movies and anything else he would like to discuss; you usually don't like to talk shop all day long, and even more when you're famous I suppose

Yell "WHY DIDN'T YOU CALL ME AFTER DENVER?!", just to freak him out.

In case he's still here after I'm done drooling, I'd ask him for an autograph (on my The Fury CD) and try to talk a bit about music in the meantime.

Marian - who should start the anti-drool training for 2005.

"Would you sign my mug?"

I don't know. I'd probably go numb at first. Maybe I'll be able to stammer something, but I really won't know until I see him. I guess I'll have to try now. :)

I'd say - "It's begun"

I'd take a step back, pull out my baton (oo-er)

John would say "Jerry has tought you well"

A fight of Batons would ensue, in which several limbs of Johnny would be severed.

As Johnny would be on the ground, armless and legless, i'd walk away.

He'd say "Oh i see....running away aye?....you yellow b*****d"

I'd stop in my tracks and say "You've got no arms you stupid b*****d"

John would shout "Come back....i'll bite yer legs off"

I have done these:

Ask for an autograph, or signing your collection

Ask for a handshake or hug

Go nuts and just talk about YOU: "I'M YOUR BIGGEST FAN!"

Drool, and be flabbergasted

Be too scared and run away

And plan to do these:

Ask what project he's working on now? "What will you do next?"

Ask if he knows something about future CD releases

I thinks those lucky enough to meet him should go for a real question, the kind were asking ourselves on the MB,like "What did Williams Ross do on CoS?",or "Why isn't the Harry/Friends theme back in PoA?",or "Did you really compose an original Finale on AotC instead of The Imperial March?"instead of I'm your biggest fan routine, which he must have heard thousands of time...

In any case it would make those meetings much more usefull...

"What did Williams Ross do on CoS?"

"He waved his baton around in front of the LSO and pretended to be me."

"Why isn't the Harry/Friends theme back in PoA?"

"Cuaron told me not to."

"Did you really compose an original Finale on AotC instead of The Imperial March?"

"No, that music was tracked in for the music video. I don't know where from."

John- agreeing with K.M., but feeling like being silly.

Well my first time meeting him was a very special personal experience where I simply wanted to tell him how important his music was; I don't think people would expect the message board to come first in a situation like that. Future meetings are a different story.

When I tried to get his autograph, it was he that was too scared and ran away.

i just asked for his autograph and said oh my god oh my god.

The drool can be contained. The loss of the ability to form a coherent sentence, possibly the forgetting of the entire English language, might be an issue.

I'm in the same catogery. I'll definately ask how his health is.

I hope that's a joke. I can't imagine a more tactless question.

That's an interesting thread.....what the most tactless question you could ask him?

Uhm.... "Have you ever ... Jerry Goldsmith?" would come pretty close I guess.

Marian - who finds the question too tactless to fully spell it out.

I remember Neil proposed that we ask him about his views on the films which his son scores.

I actually remeber Stefan saying that. I believe it was the same thread where he suggested to ask "Why aren't you good anymore?"

Hey, KM, nice new sig quote! I read it and thought, "Yep, that's me!"

I wonder how sucessful those searches have been for people. Years ago I found a site with the full Hook bootleg available for download (long since vanished). And around the same time I discovered this site, at least an older incarnation of it, and found both Ep. I unreleased and the Last Crusade bootleg.

Oh yeah, and there was the Ep. II OST leak a couple of years ago. That was a crazy couple of days.

I'd ask him about upcoming CD releases and get him to promise to do all he can to release hitherto unavailable concert music like "Soundings" and the "Horn Concerto." Plus I'd suggest that there might also be a fairly substantial market for expanded release Indiana Jones trilogy music, just for the rest of you guys.

I'd shake his hand 9knowing it is the hand that penned all that world-renowned music) and ask him for his autograph. While he was signing... hmm... just like now I would think of a million things to say, but just say... um... "I've been a fan since I was 4-6 years old and I have every soundtrack album you've ever produced" or something like that. :-P That should make him happy. However, I'm SO shy in person that I'd have a hard time muttering that out, and nervousness would make me likely stutter. :-S

I met Williams at a Costco (yes, Costco). He and Yo-Yo Ma were there for a signing event. Aside from having some liner notes signed, I managed to shake his hand...

Me to John Williams: "You're the man"

That's it, sums up everything.
