rmannion 0 Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 I just got back from attending the rehearsal for Williams' concert tonight at the Hollywood Bowl. I thought I'd share a photo I snagged from about midway to the back of the bowl (in the aisle between section D and F). The quality is as good as I could manage from that far back (and zoomed in at 480mm):(Here's where I was, taken after most everyone left:)Ryan
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Cool!So did you watch it through your finder so you could actually see what the hell was going on down there? - Marc

King Mark 3,975 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 So,is Double Trouble an extended orchestral version different from the album?K.M.Who only wants to know this.
rmannion 0 Posted August 28, 2004 Author Posted August 28, 2004 ^^ Yes, it is. Very much so. A full choir is used and the orchestration is much more lush; gone are the period instruments e.g. the harpischord. It's also (naturally) quite a bit longer. It was definately one of the highlights of the evening in terms of surprises.
HPFAN_2 0 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 gone are the period instruments e.g. the harpischord. That's not good.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 But it's expected, often arrangements made for concerts get rid of exotic instuments so it can be played by standard orchestra's.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 A harpsichord isn't exotic.Marian - who would like to hear the orchestral version of SWTWC (probably similar to the one in the trailer).
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Well obviously it is, or he would not have written it out.DUH!
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 A harpsichord is the general term for a family of European keyboard instruments [...](Full article)It may be rare (I doubt it is even that, I do expect every orchestra to have one?), but it certainly isn't exotic.Marian -
Lurker 5 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra performed the suite from Star Trek - The Motion Picture with the blaster beam. Now what is all this talk about exotic instruments?Neil
John Crichton 4 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Man, if there's one thing I would love to hear in person, it's the blaster beam. I bet it's powerful. Too bad the LSO tour got cancelled, they were going to do TMP and might have brought one with them.
Ray Barnsbury 8 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I NEED to hear this new version of Double Trouble.Ray Barnsbury

Too bad the LSO tour got cancelled, they were going to do TMP and might have brought one with them.Unlikely. There was no blaster beam at the Barbican concert last year, and they didn't have to go far for that. Marian - who also wants to hear it live. Attack of the Clones
King Mark 3,975 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 I'm really bummed we got the sucky version on the album. It's THE piece I've been wanting since this score came out.Crap, can ANYONE record this somehow?Amd I'm not a huge Harpsichord fan.I like it's athmospheric use in PoA,but I prefer that its gone from the concert version.K.M.Wondering why people are concerned about the friggen blaster beam at this point
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 What's wrong with the album version?
John Crichton 4 Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 Unlikely. There was no blaster beam at the Barbican concert last year, and they didn't have to go far for that.Oh well. I wonder how many of those things actually exist anyway?K.M.Wondering why people are concerned about the friggen blaster beam at this point'Cause it's the last post I saw and felt the need to comment on it. Of course I'd love to hear the Double Trouble concert piece, it goes without saying. But you want me say to it anyway. So there it is.
