Speaking of Star Trek... the first of the final 6 episodes of Enterprise will be broadcast tomorrow night on UPN, for those of you who care. After which time there will be precious little reason to watch the network, in my humble opinion.

Creatively, dramatically, any other show this weak wouldn't have lasted nearly that long. The Trek brand is what enabled the show to survive it's first season.

and I agree this season has been much better.

Sure, in the sense that anal leakage is much better than anal bleeding.

Speaking of TNG, I always thought the ending to the series was wonderful...I mean not many shows go out with such a good ending.

Well, I don't know if anyone else bothered with the finale, but I did. It wasn't, in Jolene Blalock's words, "appalling," (and despite her feelings she steals almost every scene she's in as an ever more emotional T'Pol, a wonderful performance) but it was rather close. As I thought, it was as much the TNG finale Take 2 as the Enterprise one. In fact the Enterprise story was there just to supplement the Riker/Troi story, which was treated as the main one! I almost screamed when Riker called "end program" just when Archer was about to give his speech at the founding of the Federation. Just what was this show supposed to be about anyway? Sheesh. And don't get me started about Trip's death. Cheap and pointless.

That being said, take out the TNG elements and either re-work or eliminate Trip's death and this could have been rather good. But it is what it is. The final montage covering the 3 generations was nice though, as was McCarthy's score. I thought I heard him playing with his Generations main theme in the shots of the Enterprise-D, and he has very nice statements of the Courage fanfare and Goldsmith's main theme in the final montage.

Terra Prime, is the second part of the show's final dramatic arc (centering on the issue of xenophobia) which began last week with Demons. It promises to be pretty good. Likely not so good, however, will be the second hour of the broadcast - the show's final episode, These Are the Voyages.... Unfortunately, it's actually more of a finale for all of Star Trek (it plays like an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation), so the Enterprise characters get rather short shrift. Word is it's going to be pretty unsatisfying for those of you who have hung with Enterprise for the last four years. Apparently, a lot of the show's cast and crew considers Terra Prime to be the show's REAL finale, so take that under advisement. Anyway, tune in if you care, and enjoy them if you can. It'll probably be the last new Trek we get to see for a long time (which I'm starting to think is actually a good thing), so you know... mix a few good stiff drinks of choice and tough it out.

I thought the final episode was terrific.

It didn't just end Enterprise, it had a nice lesson on Riker and his decision to tell Picard about the phased cloaking device that (this episode hints it was section 31) covert Star Fleet experiments built.

Its interesting because you catch a glimps of Picard from behind, and you hear Data over the intercom. The last bit of music that we were told about, was it by FAT, was quite nice. Overall Enterprise went out well. And Jolene Blaylock was right and wrong, it was appalling that they killed off Trip, who was the best character on the show, right after the episode where they kill off her and Trips baby Elizabeth. Killing Trip was appalling, but she became very good in her role.

I thought Enterprise was Star Trek for rednecks. Jolene Blalock's boobs and Connor Trineer's awful pseudo-country accent. It's sort of like what would happen if Jerry Bruckheimer was ever to produce a ST series. Oh god. I just came up with the most bastardized version of ST ever...Star Trek meets CSI. How can I cleanse such a horrid thought from my mind and all existence!

It was ok. This episode was so hollow that it is easily forgettable. Why could they not let Archer get his due and make that speach? Cut out the Shran subplot and this show would have had more time to develop.

The two episodes before the finale, Demons and Terra Prime, should have been what this show was about from the beginning. It is so frustrating that we go The Alien of the Week for the first two seasons, then a pointless Xindi arc/war.

Not bad, not great. Hard to fit that in an hour considering the plot was pretty ambitious. (Terra Prime) I never really got into Enterprise though, it just didn't stack up to the others well for me.

Main problem I had with it was that the "purification" villainous-wipe-them-out weapon plot was much like Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek: Nemesis.

Now These Are The Voyages is starting. It's always sentimental for me to see TNG characters. I couldn't be happier to see that first shot of the TNG holodeck.

I was a really huge nut for TNG (and still am), it got me into science fiction as a whole, I have fond memories of waiting for it every week through my pre-teen years. I used to read all the TNG novels and wished for ages that Riker and Troi would just get together already. (The Imzadi novel was super!) Actually, I had a crush on Riker. But in that series, I truly loved each character (yes I even liked Wesley )

The score for Terra Prime by Chattaway I thought was quite good (Ex. the part just before the ray fired). Though the majestic horn-dominated Dennis McCarthy score for the last hour was even better. His top-notch work through his long Star Trek career is just great, his final cue was a fitting homage that blended both the old and the new themes.

All those events weren't even happening, Riker was just visiting them as a program in the Holodeck...the main story was really Riker trying to make the decision to tell Picard about the continuation of the anti-cloaking research.

**QUESTION: Where in the timeline was this episode supposed to be with the ST:TNG crew storyline? Obviously it is before Nemesis happened, since we hear Data's voice. And also Riker and Troi seemed to be together - but not married.

The thing I liked about the Xindi arc was that it was a move toward serialization, which is always a good one IMO. Bigger stories, and much more involving than stand-alones. The problem was execution. After the first few episodes of that season I still couldn't be bothered to watch regularly, but I peeked in from time to time (better than season 2, which I saw maybe 5 minutes of total).

What bugs me is that this does not fit into The Pegasus at all. If the writers even watched that episode at all, you will know that Riker only told Picard about the situation after Picard called him out on the carpet about it. Riker then only begrudgingly told him.

This episode made it seem that Riker was all happy and at peace with himself to tell Picard. Here's part of the transcript from that episode:

I watched this last night. It was terrible. What a totally pointless episode! Riker talks to the Enterprise crew to solve a dilemma we saw him resolve 11 years ago. Where's the drama, and what's the point? The Enterprise crew served no purpose in this episode. It should have been on the Titan, and we should have seen that warp off at the end to show that Star Trek would go on.

Anyone else has Enterprise as your favorite Star Trek show?

 

Now, before you jump on my throat, let me explain. My parents were casual Trek fans in the 90s when I was born, meaning they liked to watch the occasional Trek episode on cable once in a while. I remember they watching TNG or Voyager (I think) but since I was too little I don't remember specifics about the episodes they were seeing.

 

Fast forward to 2005, when I was 12. My dad buys season 1 of Enterprise on DVD and I start watching with my family. I really liked! I thought it was a cool sci-fi series. Of course, I wasn't aware there were other better Trek shows out there... But 12 year old me liked what he was seeing of Enterprise.

 

I remember watching on DVD seasons 1 and 2, though I'm not sure if I got to finish 2. I only have vivid memories of two episodes though: the season 1 finale where the Enterprise's captain gets stranded in the past (or was it the future? I dunno) and another one where they time travel to the 1950s and invent velcro.

 

Also, I really liked the opening credits with that song... Only years later I found out that 99% of ST fans hate it.
