johnny.flynn 0 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Hey all you Williams fans, this is a bit off topic, but I thought you'd be interested to know that I've spent some money and created an electronic label for all you upcoming artists and aspiring composers who want your music heard. Being film score enthusiests I'm sure we all have similar tastes. Anyway, It's a new Web Domain called Twilight-Land Music and it offers free advertisement for your music, advice on how to sell it (what to do) and lots more to anybody who has a CD to plug. Think of it as a cross between Sundance Film Festival and iTunes. More info is online, but the finished site is coming 2006. I just need a few more artists and writers to come on board. Anybody interested? http://www.twilight-land.comALSO...Love film music? Anybody wonder what Stephen King's Dark Tower books would look like on film... or (better yet) sound like? Well, Twilight-Land Music is now selling the film score adaptations before the films are even made. Think of a dark Spaghetti Western with a dreamy feel similar to The Twilight Zone. The first installment is available for purchase online via the aforementioned site. King even has a copy. I've put up high quality mp3 clips for you guys to check out. Tell me if you like them. They're available here...Have fun! - FlynnOh, and one more thing: all contributers are automatically entered into a contest for a promotional copy of the CD sent with -- as an added bonus -- a signed page of score as well.
nightscape94 968 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 I would love to see King's Tower cycle brought to life, but I don't think the film medium would work due to the amount of material. It would need to be about 9 lengthy films to make me content and happy. King is working with Marvel as we speak to bring Roland's back story to graphic novel form. Can't wait to see what they come up with. As far as film goes, they would be in production for like 10 years on this thing if they don't cut corners and screw it up. I don't know how they could do it, but I've thought about it before. As far as your musical score, I won't say anything because I hate the sound of MIDI orchestra or whatever it is. I just can't do it. I listened to the first couple of tracks but I had to stop before I formed an unfairly negative opinion. Sorry!Tim
johnny.flynn 0 Posted December 18, 2005 Author Posted December 18, 2005 That's completely understandable and I have the same feelings going back and listening to it. That's why the second CD in the set will be performed by real people with some expensive sample technology added to the mix aswell.
nightscape94 968 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Also, I forgot to mention this, but I thought I had stumbled across this CD like a year or two ago. This isn't new is it? I'm a huge fan of King's work, especially his magnum opus and I remember seeing this disc some time ago and listening to these samples before. When I saw it again from this post, it was like having deja vu.Tim
johnny.flynn 0 Posted December 18, 2005 Author Posted December 18, 2005 Yeah, you're not mistaken. The first CD is a year or two old now. I'm posting this because I finally got a DOMAIN NAME and put up MP3 samples that will not go down due to crappy bandwidth. This is all in preparation for The Drawing of the Three though.
nightscape94 968 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 Are you really going to score all 7 books? (maybe even an overture for "Little Sisters Of Eluria" ). That's kind of cool, considering the undertaking and dedication to something that large and intricate. I look forward to possible themes for Eddie and the Odetta/Detta turmoil (if you have that in mind...maybe two themes that will eventually merge?).Tim
Vaderbait1 1 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 THe only way the films would be any good is if they cut out the 4th book and cut out all the repetitive stuff. But it would suffer the same fate as all of King's other adaptions. There's just too much stuff you can't show without it looking ridiculous.
nightscape94 968 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Wizard and Glass is my favorite book of the series. Tim
Vaderbait1 1 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Eek. No accounting for taste, I guess.
nightscape94 968 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 You're telling me that book has absolutely no redeeming qualities? Come on, Roland as a young lad? Golden. The story of Susan? Sad stuff.Tim
johnny.flynn 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 Wizard & Glass would probably stack high for me in the series. It had clear characters and makes the Gunslinger comes off as more human because you see how he became so weathered by violence. That one, more so than the rest, would benifite from a film adaptation.Still, the first novel and the final novel, with that big-ass twist ending (which King kept quiet for thirty-some years), stand as my all-time favorites. It's like Rod Serling came back from the grave and wrote an epic.
nightscape94 968 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 (Wizard & Glass), more so than the rest, would benifite from a film adaptation.Well, it's definitely the most accessible in terms of story and setting. It's really like an old western, and I can really see the film adaptation of it being more likely to draw a wide-range audience.Tim, realizing that the DT books are not popular on this board.
ridan 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 I'm a fan. If they could make the movies without screwing them up, they might rival LOTR on my favourite films list. It'd be cool if they could get Morricone to score them.
