veggiemusician 0 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I think John Williams has writen to date 98 scores - do you recken he will retire at 100? I know its a bit of a troll post but he will want to get to 100!
stewdog1 50 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 We should get a 100 score present, like Temple of Doom complete or something.
King Mark 3,975 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I hope he retires at 100years old!K.M.
Salacius 7 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 Man that's such a depressing thought! I am always looking forward to the next Williams score
robthehand 3 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 In some ways I hope he doesn't do any this year (it'll give me a chance to catch up on some of the older CDs!)I want JW to compose for ever...
Incanus 5,890 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I think Williams couldn't stop composing. He loves music and making music. It is his life. I hope he will be doing it for a long time. And I don't think he will stop at 100 scores. I can't wait for the next one(s). What are his future projects BTW?
robthehand 3 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 We don't know of many, apart from possibly the Oliver Stone film and Indy 4. If he stops composing he might just do more concerts... having said that it'd be more likely the other way round.
Luke Skywalker 2,383 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 so if he makes those two this year.. is he not composing spielberg's Indy IV the following year? No way
batmanand 0 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 What about the new Spielberg about Lincoln?
Incanus 5,890 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 If Spielberg makes a movie then Williams will compose the score. No question about it. Williams could once again write nice Americana with trumpet solos and noble strings for a Lincoln movie but that depends on what kind of movie it will be of course.
Luke Skywalker 2,383 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I meant, if williams makes two movies this year, he will have 100. Indy comes 2007. So he will not compose it if he retires? Imposible.
Vaderbait1 1 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 I am really intrigued for the Lincoln movie. I just hope Williams doesn't go the Saving Private Ryan route where everything, including action scenes, are underplayed. This movie could really benefit from a strong, compassionate theme for Lincoln, but equally strong action pieces for the battles Speilberg said would be in it. I'd hate to see such an interesting subject as Lincoln done with that "understated"" score throughout the ENTIRE film.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 In the latest interview with that Hollywood reporter, he said that his love for music is still the same that it was back in 1977 and that he's still trying the best he can, so there's no way there are only two scores left in the box. And even if Williams should retire soon, he left behind more than enough to be considered one of the greatest film composers of all time.
veggiemusician 0 Posted January 14, 2006 Author Posted January 14, 2006 I dont think he will stop composing - just major projects!
SturgisPodmore 0 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 If Spielberg makes a movie then Williams will compose the score. No question about it.That's not what Roald said! ~Sturgis
King Mark 3,975 Posted January 14, 2006 Posted January 14, 2006 stops composing he might just do more concerts.. .I don't doubt that Williams will continue composing for a while, but what about conducting? How old do conductors usually stop? It's a pretty physical ordeal for a ,lets say 80 year old.Maybe Williams will have someone conducting his scores more in the future, like CoS.k.M.
JWfangirl1992 18 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Ok here's an idea I'll send a letter to John and will see if we can get an answer to that. Lets just pray he composes till he dies and he lives to be quite old.
King Mark 3,975 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 His Golden win should give him some extra motivation to continue composing.K.M.
TheRuleOfThirds 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Where are you getting the number 100 from? As far as written compositions, he's probably pushing 300. You're not counting all the TV stuff he's written. Plus, he has non-film work that's filled up several CDs, meaning they're as long as or longer than some scores (Saving Private Ryan, for example). And retirement's still not in sight. It's funny because a film-composing friend of one of my professors gave a film music seminar back in April and he said that John Williams was going to retire this year. Ha!
King Mark 3,975 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 100 is a rather ambiguous number. There are films where he sort of did underscore but is not offically the composer, like Valley of the Dolls,Fidder on the Roof,Tom Sawer...ect..Plus some films like Unfinished Journey which is kind of a film but isn't...ectSo he scored around 100 films is more accurate.K.M.
TheRuleOfThirds 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Plus, it's hard to limit something you enjoy that isn't costing you anything. JW enjoys writing music, he still puts his all into it, it's not ruining his health or his love for it, so he keeps on doing it. Why should he stop at 100? Jerry didn't. He wrote till he could write no more.
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I agree Williams really seems to enjoy his work and as long as he has the stamina to do it I see no reason for him to stop.
ashinyobject 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 i read somewhere that he wants to do Jurassic Park IV. he wanted to do Jurassic Park III but he was too busy.
MSM 194 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I'm only hoping for the following JW scores still to come:- Indy 4- Jurassic Park 4- Harry Potter 5, 6 or 7- An animated fairy tale movie
ashinyobject 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Spielberg said that he wants to do a totally science fiction movie and a musical. i hope Williams does a musical.
MSM 194 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Spielberg said that he wants to do a totally science fiction movie and a musical. i hope Williams does a musical. What is a totally science fiction movie? I like the idea as long as it isn't a dark movie like wotw, AI or minority report.MSM - who only yestreday realized what a great score AI really is.
ashinyobject 0 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 What is a totally science fiction movie?maybe i should have said fantasy.
pixie_twinkle 60 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 Spielberg said that he wants to do a totally science fiction movie and a musical. i hope Williams does a musical.Oh I hope not. The world should be spared another Thomas and the King.
Trumpeteer 304 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I dont think he will stop composing - just major projects! He inferred that in the mid-1990s. Look how that plan turned out.
JWfangirl1992 18 Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I agree Williams really seems to enjoy his work and as long as he has the stamina to do it I see no reason for him to stop.I agree you cant stop doing something that you love, beside I can't picture John Williams retiring to the Bahamas or some tropical island.
