I like this new board, but I must say the obscene number of useless posts is quite out of hand.

I don't say this out of jealousy, so don't even think that.

But this is rediculous. And I sorry if it is directed at a handful of people, but that is how it is.

I am real tired of having to wade through alot of empty posts trying to read something of interest or of value. I search and search for something thats worth reading. It has become quite difficult.

I look forward to reading posts of substance. I look forward to reading posts by Stefan, Indy, Roald, Chrusher, Figo, Melange, and a few others.

I challange others to give up the numbers game and post something worth reading.

This board deserves a better quality of posts.

Joe, who expects to piss a few people off, but this is how I feel.

I totally agree with you. I have too seen alot of kind of useless posts, "not that there's anything wrong with that". I probably have the smallest post total at the moment of anyone because I'm having trouble finding stuff that I would be able to actually give a response to.

Why not name names? What is there to hide?

~Harry

why name names, the people know who they are.

I just want to talk about movies, John Williams, other things, but finding a post worth reading is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

And its not like the nameless people arn't capable of quality post, because they are and they have in the past.

Joe.

I just wanted to know who all you were talking about.

Where have all the poster gone? Why have the most prolific poster gone missing lately? Are they all afraid to come and bring order?

You're right, Joe. I sincerely apologize.

Dan - who understands Joe's frustration and will honour his request

Don't worry Joe, my feeling is that all this is the "new messageboard" behaviour. I bet everyone will calm down :)

Hector - who hopes Joe is not that pissed off.

I agree, Hector. Joe, I'm glad you said something. I was wondering if anyone was going to say something while some of us had fun. Please accept our apologies, as we are happy about this new board.

Yes, Hector. I agree with that. The thing is, there's not too many topics and posts going up that are worth discussing. There are a few, but most are simple questions or off-topic things that some (if not, most) don't care about.

Dan - who thinks Joe is rather pissed, and understandably so.

Joe does make valid points. There is a trend that has been continuing from the previous boards, and that is what's known as "padding." The most common one, of course, is bragging rights about how many posts such and such a user has. Or having users seeing the need to reply (usually with little substance) to almost every single new message in order to bring his/her post count up. I had mentioned this previously on the older board, but this kind of action almost anywhere else usually results in the user being banned. This board tends to be a little more lenient, and that's understandable. One can only talk about John Williams or film music in general for so long. But if only the discussions were interesting topics everyone could respond to...

(Off my soapbox now.)

Jack? Is that you?

Dan - who enjoyed the "soap box" comment

I agree, if there were less useless posts I wouldn't have to reply to them to keep my post number up :(

I have to agree with Joe on this one. This doesn't mean people are not alowed to post nonsense or simply just chit chat, cause I enjoy that too a bit, and I like those posters but the amount we see nowadays is really a shame.

 There's a good reason for toning it down a bit: There are many great posts but because of the huge amount of gibberish talk, all those great subjects are quickly moved to backrow, page two and then into oblivion. :!:

And that REALLY is a shame. :!:

I think everyone is happy at how fast the message board works.

Don't worry!

That would be me ;)

Most of the time I read the topics I'm interested in, and when I'm through with one there often isn't much I can add, because everything has already been said :)

Surely you can add something, no? Please chime in whenever you want! I've been missing some of the other posters, you included. Please don't let us step on your toes.

I really like it when we have "conversations" no matter how short when they pertain to topic

it is fun however to get off topic sometimes too!

That's how you find out curious things about each other

well we certain found out what kind of thoughts you sometimes have...

I certainly won't be posting as many off topic posts.

You can tell that I haven't doing much off topic posting :baaa: , or actually any posting at all. :)

Jason! A pleasure to see you! I agree with Ren, by the way.

Dan - wondering if Jason will ever visit our thread

I've got to agree with Joe on this one (big surprise). I come here for fun and I'm getting quite frustrated coming here and finding hundreds of posts to wade through. Perhaps this will calm down once we get used to the new board.

Neil - who complained about useless posts on the old board

Posted

Yes, Indysolo. I have a feeling all will calm down and order will set in.

I agree with Joe, sometimes I feel like I'm scrolling down thru DANIEL2's babbling posts on the FSM board just to get to the next important message in a thread.

Posted

I agree, but I feel the need to reply to them for post count :( Though it can be fun.

Posted

I agree. It's about quality, not quantity. I'm actually proud of my low post count because I know each one of those messages contributes to the discussion - not the kind of chit chat you see in chat rooms.

Jake - well, maybe 13 out of 14 :tongue2:

Glad to hear that someone is speaking up on this one. I've noticed it for several months now, not just since this newer looking site is up.

Lets see who is the most mature, and speak or contribute on something worthwhile.

But for those who feels numbers of posts are important, how about if everyone just congratulate them all now, even before they get there.

So, friends and colleagues, lets work together to not dilute this board. Otherwise, instead of it being a message board, it will be a message bored.

Agreed. If you want to chat, we have a brand new chat room set up here, and it works quite well. It won't add to your post count, but it will clear up this board, and you'll still get to talk with your friends.
