Vangelis' score for Chariots of Fire beat out the awesome score Raiders of the Lost Ark. But time and history show that Raiders was far better than the Vangelis score. And people barely remember Chariots of Fire from '81. Raiders and On Golden Pond are more memorable.

Yes, Joe. Unbelievable. I was able to download 2 "Main Theme/Main Title" cues from Grusin's On Golden Pond and I think it's beautiful. I would love to hear the full score.

Of course, I should also watch the film --- which, incidently, was on TV the other day.

Vangelis is not just a film score composer. He has done much more than soundtracks. He's only done a handful of soundtracks.

Have you heard any of his other works?

I'm not saying that Vangelis is better than JW. They are two totally different types of musicians.

One day, if not already, JW will be held in as high esteem as Beethoven and others.

Vangelis, will be held the same. But not in the same mold. He is an inovator more than anything else. Like JW, often imitated, but never duplicated.

I urge you and others to listen to Vangelis' other works outside of soundtracks. You will thank me later.

YES!! How could I forget Forrest Gump!! It's a great score.

I, too, loved Zimmer's score to The Lion King. Don't know if it was worthy of an Oscar, but it's still a great score, I think.

And I'm surprised you had Saving Private Ryan in your list, JCM. I think it's one of Johnny's best. It served the film perfectly and it's a harrowing and outstanding musical achievement.

I'd have to disagree with you there Joe. Certainly in regard to the British Psyche anyway. Its deep in everyones memory here. Play the famous theme from Chariots here, and people would recognize it immediately as from that film. Probably because its been used heavily in school sports events since then. Hehehe. Plus, because of the culture of the film. I also like 1492, Stewdog. Do you have Vangelis' El Greco and Mask CD'S (not film scores).
