ymenard 68 Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 I have this question that bothered me since a while...On the track "Ark Trek", at 00:45, is that the Nazi theme? It's a 8-note motif that only appears once in the soundtrack, after a version of the Ark Theme. It's _so_ amazing. I wish he had used it more throughout the Indiana Jones movies. But hey, I also thought he should have used the original Vader/Empire motif from A New Hope in the other SW movies
Guest Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 The Nazi theme is actually the one introduced as a fanfare in The Flying Wing sequence and used extensively in the Desert Chase sequence. There is a secondary motif for percussion used for Toht (Ronald Lacey's character) and is used in flight to nepal music and in the Basket game sequence. Its further enhanced in the U-boat sequence when the Nazis are boarding.hope the info helpsregardsAmer
Jim Ware 638 Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 The theme that (I think) you're referring to is the 'medallion theme', which also appears in 'The Medallion' and 'The Miracle Of The Ark'.
Luke Skywalker 2,383 Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 I prefer the nazi theme in Last crusade....
ChrisAfonso 237 Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 I have to add that (IMO) the Medallion theme is a highlight of the Raiders soundtrack. Creepy, mysterious... great!
UCFKevin 0 Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Yes, DEFINITELY. I've had that theme in my head all day for some reason. Love it.
ymenard 68 Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Ah-ha! The Medaillon theme, yes that makes much more sense now.I was reading the liner notes and wondering about the whole thing. It's so beautiful!Raiders of the Lost Ark is *so* complex. It's much more then I thought at the first approach. I started listening to it carefully only about a month ago. Sometimes Johnny knew what movies would and wouldn't be successful, and works accordingly for the musical complexity. I mean, The River isn't really as developped as Raiders in both leitmotivs on the screen and the complexity of the music. Not the same type of movie, but you can see my point It's why there's sometimes "flops" that are scored pretty wild by John, like Hook and Far&Away. imho!
Romão 2,473 Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 The medallion theme is great and is a perfect partner to the ark theme, which is, in my book, on the top 5 JW themes, it's absolutly stunning.Romao, who prefers by far the nazi theme from the Last Crusade.
ST-321 42 Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Masterful he is. I agree the medallion theme alone is reason enough to own the soundtrack.
Morn 8 Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Here here, the ark theme and medallion are brilliant.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Masterful he is. I agree the medallion theme alone is reason enough to own the soundtrack.Definitely!
Romão 2,473 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 And the ark theme...the ark theme. That melody has haunted me since I was a little boy.
King Mark 3,975 Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 The Ark and medallion theme complement themselves so well it takes some listening to seperate them, like the stone and Voldemort's theme in PS.K.M.
