Jessie Lohner 0 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 There's a theme for the Nazi Colonel Vogel, has anyone noticed that?It plays only twice in the movie, but it's definitely a theme! The first time is when he gets into the tank to confront Papa Jones and Brody--it's played very softly, very low-key. You can hear it at 1:11 in Death of Kazim. The second time is, of course, in "On the Tank" when he starts strangling Indy (at 1:55).It's kind of a merciless, tough, no-nonsense theme... I love this!! Man, TLC is absolutely great!! (I haven't listened to all of TOD yet.)

Nick Parker 3,049 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Hey, you are correct. Though I am not sure if a new thread should have been started for this, that is an interesting find.
indy4 160 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Nice find!!!!!! I had no clue. I guess this is the "Russian Theme" of LC.

Luke Skywalker 2,383 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Not sure this qualifies as a motifHItler has a theme and he only appears two minutes
indy4 160 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 As does Nurachi (sorry if I spelled it wrong).I just rewatched bits of LC, and the alleged theme for Vogel plays when Vogel slaps Henry with his gloves, so it is definetly associated with Vogel. I'm pretty sure that this is a new theme.
Nick Parker 3,049 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 Just add an "h" after the "r", and you are good to go.
DejaQ 0 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I never noticed that before. Now that you mention it, I think it's also stated in "The Austrian Way" when Vogel punches Indy.
indy4 160 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I just watched that scene, and I don't think I heard it.But when does Vogel make his first appearance in the film, is it in the castle?

We should rewatch the movie and look out for this theme... maybe it's somewhere else too.
Ollie 1,375 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Not sure this qualifies as a motifHItler has a theme and he only appears two minutes Yeah but the music wasn't used in the film.
Delorean90 47 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Yeah, I've noticed the Vogel motif for a little while now. I believe it is only those two times. When I listened to "The Austrian Way," it didn't sound at all like his motif. Williams probably didn't originally intend for it to be a motif, given that it isn't in "Belly of the Steel Beast," but when he got the opportunity to revisit the sequence in "On the Tank," I would imagine that he decided at that point to go ahead and use it as a motif for Vogel.
Josh500 1,620 Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Hmmmm, you're right. "On the Tank" is my current favorite track of the Indiana Jones boxset.
