ST-321 42 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Check this out:http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/01/20/star-trek-the-motion-picture-watch-a-lost-making-of-the-movie-video/I had never seen the video. They were certainly playing the correct theme as Persis Khambatta gets her hair cut off.
Charlie Brigden 7 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Wonderful stuff, thanks for sharing
Andy 7,730 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Funny... I was watching TMP on Blu Ray last night and thinking how poor the behind the scenes extras have been for all of the classic Trek films, throughout their home video history. I wish someone who cared about such things could properly prepare some bonus material like this for home video.
Datameister 2,586 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Cool video! I'm not a huge fan of TMP, but still fun to see some behind-the-scenes footage.
Trent B 354 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I've seen that video before it's always fun to watch.
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The good old days of precise model work, matte paintings and using actual music from the film in the making of docs, instead of the current cheap droning heard.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I got to visit an actual model shop (Kerner Optical) many many years ago while I was just a teenager. Then the industry was just barely getting into the transition from models to digital. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and kinda pushed me into the arena of visual effects. The smells, the sounds, the ACTUAL objects you got to work on. Of course, I'm sure everyone there saw me as the annoying high school kid who just kept asking all these questions. But it really was a magical place. Like Santa's workshop or something. They were even working on stuff for ILM for TPM I think.Today 90% of those types of shops across Hollywood have shut down. Kerner Optical is still around, but last I read even they were starting to move away from physical models and miniatures.
