ManofDestiny 104 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Since I love to have a legit complete score of "Legends of the Fall", "Edward Scissorhands" and "Final Fantasy", I want to buy the DVD from Amazon and rip the score. But I am facing some problems.First, are these items are the DVDs contain isolated score?http://www.amazon.co...=A2VS6A6X5QM016http://www.amazon.co...m=A9G4IDK5ZNW30http://www.amazon.co...=A3GX4K5GSURON6Than, are the isolated score commentary free?Lastly, how are the quality of the isolated score? Are they lossless? If my ripping going well, I would consider to buy more DVD for rip, i.e. Glory, 1941, Red Dragon. So please help, thank you.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 DVD's generally don't contain lossless audio. Most blu-rays do.
Richard P 5,302 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 If you look on Soundtrack.net those 3 DVDs are listed as having isos on region 1.Another sign is if a composer commentary is listed on the product page. I've never seen one that didn't isolated the music underneath. But, watch out for the Final Fantasy one. Goldenthal talks over a lot of the music. Elfman possibly does on Scissorhands too.
Frank Vincent 301 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 All three isolated scores are also available on the R2 releases. Goldenthal does indeed talk over a lot of the music. Elfman only a few times.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 The problem with iso scores on region 2 is that they are PAL, so the music is 4% faster then it should be.
Richard P 5,302 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Gives us 4% more time to do other stuff
Wojo 2,458 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 If you know the rate at which the music is artificially sped up, you can artifically slow it down to match what's normal.Or, if you've never heard the "real" presentation, then you shouldn't care.
Richard P 5,302 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I ripped Contact from the R2 DVD and didn't slow it down. Sounds fine to me.Anyone have any blu-rays that duplicate the isolated score? I'm keeping my disc buying controlled, and lossless isolated music would be a swayer.
Jonesy 55 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 The problem with iso scores on region 2 is that they are PAL, so the music is 4% faster then it should be.And the volume is low, at least in my Superman DVD.

Jonesy 55 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I know it, but I was curious. I think the isolated score last around 90 minutes.

Jonesy 55 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I'm not sure if there noise, I will check it.EDIT: I just check it and the music sounds very well.
Wojo 2,458 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Not that I know why you need to rip the Superman DVD when we have the full score on the Rhino and FSM releases. The Superman DVD costs is about $10, the Rhino soundtrack costs no more than $20, and the FSM box set is still $120.O'Doyle rules.
Rachael Foley 10,162 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 and the superman disc has certain clean endings
Richard P 5,302 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I've discovered the 2010 special edition Blu-ray of the BBC's Planet Earth apparently has isolated scores for all episodes in DD 2.0. Should receive it this weekend to verify.Pretty damn cool. Not a case for ripping every second, but there are a bunch of unreleased tracks I want.Edit - turns out it's a music + effects track. 'Music only episode play' my ass. Idiots.
Trent B 354 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Even though we have the full sessions for The Matrix the Blu-Ray stand alone for the movie would be worth getting to rip the techno pieces and to have the film version opening of "Hotel Ambush" (with out those overlays at the beginning). I do believe the isolated score on the Blu-Ray version of The Matrix is lossless.
