Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum.

I'm a long-time fan of JW. I'm planning a trip to USA next August, and I'd like to include in my vacation a JW concert. That would be a dream coming true! I've seen there is one in Tanglewood and the other one in LA. I suppose the programs (yet unknown) will be similar, but which one is better in terms of location? From pictures I've seen on the web the location Tanglewood looks more intimate than the Hollywood Bowl. On the other hand Tanglewood is more difficult to reach, since it's pretty far from bigger cities.

Anyone has seen concerts in one of these locations? Which one would you recommend to experience a JW concert?

Thanks

What else are you planning to see in the U.S.? Tanglewood may be a couple hours from Boston or New York, but if you're interested in seeing those cities, Tanglewood would definitely be a better option. Plus, you wouldn't be out of reach of Philadelphia or Washington, D.C. if you had the time. On the other hand, if you're interested in seeing sights in L.A. or San Diego, the Hollywood Bowl would be better. There are plenty of things to see on each coast, but it's a matter of preference, really.

I had a great experience at Tanglewood last year. Never been to the Bowl. If you choose Tanglewood I would advice you to sleep somewhere closeby afterwards, because I drove back to NYC after the concert and this was dreadful. The roads are poorly lit and there were countless deer crossing them or just standing in the middle. That was some freaky shit.... But I got to shake John's hand and I got his autograph...! So that made everything ok of course! ;)

Hi!

Actually the trip that I'm planning is pretty far from both locations.. I'd flight to Denver and from there I'd like to do a loop and visit Colorado,Wyoming, Utah. But I've check I could add a intermediate stop with almost no extra cost before or after the trip (I could do Italy-Boston-Denver-Italy or Italy-Denver-LA-Italy). Only, going to Tanglewood takes some more time because there is a 3.5 hours bus trip from Boston. And besides I should arrive the day before the concert. But a JW concert definitely worth it!

Anyway, I've just bought for 70$ the last ticket available for the first block of rows for the Tanglewood concert :):). In the left corner, very close to the the stage. I'm still not sure to be able to attend, but I have the ticket, just to be safe ;)

This is an interesting question, because it address the issue the "where is home?".

If you can, got to both, as both offer very different "atmospheres", and both offer very different listening experiences.

If, however, you are forced to make a choice, the definitely see him at Tanglewood.

It seems to me that, although he seems happy to conduct at The Hollywood Bowl, I get the impression that his "spiritual" home is at Tanglewood.

Some artists have a spiritual home. One can't really see Eric Clapton at anywhere other than the Royal Albert Hall, or Rush at the Maple Leaf Gardens, or Oasis in Manchester; it's where they belong.

I have seen/heard Williams three times at The Barbican, and once at the RAH, and he seemed far more at ease at The Barbican, than he did at the other place.

If you want a well made hamburger and fries, then, by all means, head to The Hollywood Bowl. If, however, you want a expertly-cooked steak with baked potato, then go to Tanglewood.
