JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Back in 1991 I went to my oral surgeon and he removed my 3 wisdom teeth. My upper left jaw never had room for one. Well back in 2006 I had a pain in my right lower jaw and soon a new tooth started coming out. It took 4 years for the thing to come through the gum and align properly. My dentist refused to pull it saying I needed an oral surgeon again. Once the tooth came in it didn't hurt anymore but it always felt odd because there was so little room for it. The tooth was loose and I kept working at it to make it looser.Tonight it made a popping noise and laid over more than before. So I kept jiggling it and suddenly it popped out. It had a double knuckle root so that's why it came out so easily. I had to make a 1 am run to Walmart to get some gauze and Aleve but the store is 3 min from the house.Surprisingly it does not hurt. That's not to say it isn't sore. Afterall it did leave a big empty socket. I am waiting on the bleeding to subside before I go to bed, but I'll still put a towel over my pillow tonight. No straws for several days and I'll have to be careful to protect the socket until it heals in a few days. I'm sure I'll be spitting out bits of the tooth as a small section broke off. I remember there is one Jwfan that is particularly squeemish. Richard I think. I'll gladly post a picture for his benefit.
Mr. Breathmask 624 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Rambo would have used a 6-inch knife to wrench it loose.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Hmmm...Obama-care is not what it's cracked up to be then?
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 that hasn't taken effect.Besides it was just a loose tooth, I wiggled it and it came free.this morning I feel fine, sleepy a bit, but no pain or swelling.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 If a tooth is loose and you can extract it yourself, then I see no reason why you would need an oral surgeon.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Yeah but your dentist? He does not want to extract an external wisdom tooth?
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Yeah but your dentist? He does not want to extract an external wisdom tooth?at that time it was impacted and only partially through the skin and bone.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Years ago I managed to extract most of a wisdom molar myself, but part of the roots stayed in...and began to fester.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 and that led to your life long ambition to conquer Europe and eventually the world. Of course you succeeded without any of us knowing about it.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 No, I had to go to an oral surgeon who too out the roots and my remaining wisdom teeth. My intentions are essentially peaceful, Joseph. You know that.
Wojo 2,458 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 I'll say.The last tooth that I remember getting pulled, in middle school, caused me to nearly pass out.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 You putting the tooth under the pillow?damn it. I forgot.I'll put it under tonight, and hope. After all being a homo I know fairies are real.
Wojo 2,458 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 After all being a homo I know fairies are real.So you just want the fairy under the pillow instead of the money, right?
Hitch 60 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I used an ice skate to remove all my wisdom teeth because I'm one tough mothafucka,.
King Mark 3,975 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I'm waiting for Joey's jaw infection report
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 I'm waiting for Joey's jaw infection reportwhy would I have a jaw infection report. There is no infection. I've had teeth taken out, I know how to deal with a socket. It's healing up nicely, the socket has sealed and new gum is already growing.

So after a few weeks of leaking pus i grabbed a syringe filled it with pure alcohol, stuck it in the scab and emptied the contents in the wound.Stopped the infection straight away and the wound healed up a week or so later.Sometimes doctors are full of it!

King Mark 3,975 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 you'll be fine. Unless you left part of the root in there
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 even when I had them all cut out parts of the roots or bone were left in. The best thing is the tooth was very large, and it crowded the back of my mouth. Its' wonderful not being there.
Trent Hoyt 13 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I had braces for 6 years and had oral surgery to fix my teeth. Amazingly I've had no problems with my wisdom teeth, yet.Thats an epic story Joey, I'm still waiting for some photos.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Yes enough talk, lets see some footage!

It's true that if it is only a very small remnant which is vital, you can leave it. If it is avital or luxated it should be removed. So an important question is: why did it break? Larger than 3 mm should be removed anyway.

By the time it popped out it was much higher than the rest of my teeth. The only problem I've had it the tooth that was in front is a little hot cold sensitive on the back. I've had that problem when I had my top molar removed. It stopped after a couple of weeks, its only been 8 days. My socket is growing in rapidly.

Wojo 2,458 Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Nah. Everclear is usually 151 to 190 proof, while vodka is typically 80 to 120 proof.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Not vodka, pure 100% alcohol.
stewdog1 50 Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Not vodka, pure 100% alcohol. And you put that in your mouth? I don't know if I could stomach that.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 It was on the outside of my jawline.Sigh.And yes it is foul. I've used it to clean printing ink and accidentally a few drops would fly in my mouth.
