Charlie Brigden 7 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 From previous experience he'll make Streitenfeld rewrite most of his work then track half the film with A GOOD YEAR and BODY OF LIES.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Robin Hood is great. Streitenfeld is a promising composer, but his other work is not the correct way to evaluate what he will do with Prometheus. How is Robin Hood great?
Romão 2,473 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I've just read some massive massive spoilers for this movie. I wish I hadn't. But I what I read did seem good from a plot standpoint
A24 5,156 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Was it this trailer?http://www.liveleak....1384&comments=1Looks very different from Alien. There's even ordinary trees. I don't like trees in sci-fi. (remember Return Of The Jedi?)
Romão 2,473 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I read a very detailed plot synopsis, but I have no idea how legit it was. The plot seemed fairly interesting, but the roles of the characters felt a bit by the numbers
Brónach 1,330 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Apparently the script prior to Lindelof's leaked at some point.
Romão 2,473 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I've just found out that what I read was fan fiction based on what little is known about this movie. Good fan fiction, though
Jay 46,242 Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Ain't It Cool News is reporting that it's confirmed Marc Streitenfeld will be scoring Prometheus. They also have a fuzzy pic of the first poster:http://www.aintitcool.com/node/52276

crumbs 16,007 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 The tonality required for a film like Prometheus is pretty different from the tonality of Robin Hood or American Gangster. I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Alien's score, as heard in the final film, is a mostly brooding and atmospheric score. What Goldsmith wrote as he intended for the film is a different story.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Does the title "Prometheus" have a Joseph Conrad connection?
Brónach 1,330 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Film poster is very generic.Looks like the cover of a random sci-fi book. As long as we don't get a faces montage...
tharpdevenport 4 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Fuck, I was right. Would have liked to have been wrong!
crocodile 9,724 Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Maybe he'll go Terrence Malick/Stanley Kubrick and not use most of the score? No, even I don't believe that.Karol
crocodile 9,724 Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 In Kingdom of Heaven Scott made a very effective use of music, actually. Maybe he'll use the rest of the Alien music?Karol
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 What Goldsmith wrote as he intended for the film is a different story. Not really. What Goldsmith wrote was similarly brooding and atmospheric for the most part.
A24 5,156 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I thought some parts were too much typical monster music (look behind you, the monster is there!), so they didn't use it.
publicist 4,650 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 They didn't use the score because you found it ill-fitting?Alex, can i make you a list with things in blockbusters i don't like and you make them go away?
A24 5,156 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I hope Ridders will call me again while he's adding the music to Prometheus.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 This film has been shooting for a long time now and no complaints yet from the cast that they are feeling ignored by Ridley! That's bad, i hope he's not wasting his time directing actors...
A24 5,156 Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 The film's big revealing moment ... will it be Russel Crowe?
A24 5,156 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Finally, asked if the original alien from Alien, commonly called the xenomorph, will appear in Prometheus, Scott is emphatic:Scott: "No. Absolutely not. They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"New trailer ?:http://www.dreadcent...ere-yes-alreadyAlex
Quintus 6,495 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Finally, asked if the original alien from Alien, commonly called the xenomorph, will appear in Prometheus, Scott is emphatic:Scott: "No. Absolutely not. They squeezed it dry. He (the xenomorph) did very well. (He laughs) He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"
tharpdevenport 4 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I think he meant:"I hired Marc, Jesus Christ!"
Charlie Brigden 7 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 In space no one can hear you JUMP FOR FREAKIN JOY.
Brónach 1,330 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 This looks like some lost Stanislaw Lem novel. Rich, weird ambiances; humanity contacting incomprehensible alien beings, then things go awry.I'm eager to see it.
A24 5,156 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 That teaser is great! Every Alien fan is going crazy now.
crocodile 9,724 Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Yeah it looks kinda cool.Karol
A24 5,156 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 That pulse in the music really works. I love that the characters are slowly taking shape like in the original film. It's almost as if it says, forget the films of Cameron, Fincher and Jeunet, this is the real deal!
A24 5,156 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I only hope it won't turn into some kind of Event Horizon or the last part of Sunshine.
Romão 2,473 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 The trailer aproach is like a mix of the original Alien teaser and the Inception teaser. Looks very intriguing though, can't wait
Brónach 1,330 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 That pulse in the music really works. I love that the characters are slowly taking shape like in the original film. It's almost as if it says, forget the films of Cameron, Fincher and Jeunet, this is the real deal! This is like the "official sequel" to Alien. Aliens is like a fan film. In the good sense, I mean, a great film from someone who probably loved the first one. Of course we can't be sure of how good Prometheus will be, with this director at the helm. I'd love such a project to fuel again Scott's inherent good manners at filmmaking. He certainly sounds excited about it. I'm optimistic.Something I'm thinking is that some imagery from the trailer might be from the ending of the film (that ship/thing/whatever crashing) and they use what most resembles the original Alien for marketing purposes.Another thing I'm wondering is what is it the people in the film are looking for that is related to the origins of humanity or the Earth or something like that. I'm really into that. I can only hope the story makes sense. Please.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Some of the hardware in the trailer looks more Aliens then Alien though. The armored car thingyAlso those laser like sensor lights seem straight out of Cameron's film.
Charlie Brigden 7 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Yeah, he borrowed them from The Who.
Quintus 6,495 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 It is a good trailer, just about teasing enough. It looks nicely shot; if a little forced. I see a director trying very hard to replicate originality. The music used was disappointingly ineffective - I hope it sounds nothing like that in the film itself - it sounds too try hard; too "Hey look at me! I'm subtle and sophisticated!"
A24 5,156 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Is there somebody else here who thinks the music is disappointing, too subtle and sophisticated, like Quint says? I think it works exceptionally well. Am I alone? Probably. I don't think it's subtle either It's actually very present. That pulse is like 'wow!'Yeah, he borrowed them from The Who.You're not kidding either.
Charlie Brigden 7 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I like the music, but I don't think it's subtle or particulary sophisticated,It might have been when it was used in the original ALIEN trailer though.
Jay 46,242 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 What a terrific teaser!1. It gives a great sense of what the film will be like without giving anything away2. Leaves you instantly yearning for more3. Hinted at being tied to the original Alien film without directly saying soI loved the 70s look it had, and the special effects were very good - didn't look like typical CGI ever.Hopefully the film itself will be good - I trust the director, actors, set design, cinematography, etc - It all hinges on whether or not the script is any good
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Worryingly, the script is from the writer of Lost.....
Sharkissimo 1,978 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Scott used laser lights in Alien.Where? I know he used strobe lights, but I can't remember dem lasers!
A24 5,156 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 In them alien caves (spaceship) on the hostile planet. In the scene where them eggs are stacked.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 You may be right.(what is Mr Scott's condition?)
