Maurizio 6,913 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 http://www.kusc.org/specials/williams.aspxWith 47 Oscar nominations to his credit, more than any other living person, John Williams, at age 80, shows no sign of slowing down. He’s currently working on his 26th film score for director Steven Spielberg in a career that has no equal. Join host Jon Burlingame for American Journey, A Tribute to John Williams, Sunday, February 26 at 1 p.m. on Classical KUSC.On his Facebook page Burlngame also wrote:talks to John Williams about his illustrious career, and plays lots of his music (including some unreleased gems) on Sunday before the Oscar telecast.

Danger! And this sounds like a really great programme! First of all Burlingame is a Williams fan and knows his film music so I bet it will be a very interesting interview/tribute.
Maurizio 6,913 Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Jon Burlingame says:Some of my John Williams interview -- portions we couldn't fit into Sunday's two-hour special -- will air at 8 a.m. Pacific time Saturday on KUSC's "Arts Alive" program (streaming at www.kusc.org ).The Sunday special will not be available for streaming on demand later on, so you better record this
p0llux 435 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 It should be Pacific Timezone. It appears to be a radio station in LA.
astonexperience 0 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hi,Can somebody record this and upload to youtube - just for us on the other planet called 'The UK'Thanks, Ad
films 0 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 yes i would love to have a recording of this if possible ... thanks
chuck 155 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Will John be able to attend the Oscars ceremony? Sorry, I'm outside US so I don't know when the Oscars gonna start in there.
TJH132 58 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I found KUSC on TuneIn Radio. Boot up those smartphones and tablets and have a listen!TJH
nightscape94 968 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 If it's on US Pacific Standard Time than it should be airing in about 3.5 hours.
KittBash 361 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Hopefully I will home and able to record it!I don't care if I have to record it on my ipad or iphone from the app I'll find a way to get it off!
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Has anyone tested all the formatsIt opens in VCL but I can only record a 128k MP3 streamMaybe there is a AAC somewhereOf course this is in the remote chance we'll get any true unreleased JW piece
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I'd imagine if there's unreleased music it'll be from the Tintin or War Horse promos, as it is a pre-Oscar telecast.
Xander Harris 9,674 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 That's what I'm thinking, as well.
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 the sound quality is abyssimalIt's time these internet radio shows upgrade to at least 256k streaming
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 What's that piece playing when the interviewer first mentions the comedy films? Right before How to Steal a Million.
Damien F 2,079 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 the sound quality is abyssimalIt's time these internet radio shows upgrade to at least 256k streamingAre you listening through the red play button on the top right of the page. Quality sounds OK to me. I'm not an audiophile, but I wouldn't say it's abyssimal.
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 A lot of these interview bits aren't original. The Star Wars bit came with the Phantom Menace DVD I think.
Damien F 2,079 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Does anyone know what album that Jaws cue is from. I've never heard that concert version before. It's very good.
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Does anyone know what album that Jaws cue is from. I've never heard that concert version before. It's very good.I think it's from Williams on Williams.
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Ah okay. I thought the arrangement had been specifically written for Williams on Williams, as I don't have the Jaws OST.
Damien F 2,079 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 The first cue might have been the OST, but the second cue certainly wasn't.I listened to the 30 second clip of The Barrel Chase from Wiliams on Williams on amazon. Sounds like the cue I was looking for...
Erik Woods 841 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Too bad that a lot of the music is getting truncated!-Erik-
Damien F 2,079 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Too bad that a lot of the music is getting truncated!-Erik-I'm more disappointed that there isn't a proper interview with JW.
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Yeah me too. I wonder which scores Williams passed up for the Boston Pops?
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 what's thisI was distracted and didn't hear
Damien F 2,079 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 "Concert Music By John Williams"Thanks for being specific
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Right now it's the Elegy for Cello and Orchestra, one of Williams' most gorgeous concert works. The first piece was the cello concerto, I believe.
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I'm not very good at identifying these
Muad'Dib 2,059 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 The first piece was the cello concerto, I believe. You sure? I thought it was the Violin Concerto, but I don't remember if there was an official recording of that one...
MissPadmé 17 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 The Elegy for Cello and Orchestra- an extended version of "regaining a son" from 7 yrs in Tibet
Damien F 2,079 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 That little quote from JW looking back on his time as conductor at Boston and his continued work with them at Tanglewood was actually quite nice.
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Well that's a bassoon so it's probably the bassoon concerto. The first piece was the cello concerto, I believe. You sure? I thought it was the Violin Concerto, but I don't remember if there was an official recording of that one...You could be right. I don't own either of JW's violin concertos so I wouldn't know. But this reminds me I need to listen to his cello concerto more often.EDIT: Oh yeah you're right he said it was the violin concerto.
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 what's this one. It sounds like somekind of unreleased march
Xander Harris 9,674 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Unmistakably the Raiders recording of the march. It never gets old. It's never been done better.
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 what's this one. It sounds like somekind of unreleased marchProbably Forrest Gump or Back to the Future.
KittBash 361 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 AHHH can't believe I calculated the time zones wrong by an hour. Missed the first hour!
King Mark 3,975 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 yeah, no matter how many times I do it , I cannot memorize time zone conversionsOMGGreat Performances
indy4 160 Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Oh great, my Real Player acting up. It won't play anything past E.T.I had to reopen it. Did I miss anything good between E.T. and Liberty Fanfare?
