King Mark 3,975 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I rarely buy Star Wars stuff anymore but I picked up the Hallmark TIE Interceptor ornament. It's very nice and detailed. I don't believe there has ever been one this nice in this size unless you build and paint the AMT model yourselfhttp://www.hallmark..../2995QXI2061_DKI also bought a Logitech M510 wireless mouse. Works pretty well
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 2 tickets for Streetlight Manifesto at the 9:30 Club on December 16th.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Got 26 chicken wings marinating, 13 in buttermilk and garlic, and 13 in soy/ginger/garlic/molasses/orange and pineapple juice. We'll cook them up tomorrow.
Wojo 2,458 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I would think Steef has a standing invitation, to help him forget about his women problems. Nothing helps like good ol' chicken wings.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I've had a standing invitation at the Casa del Allen for over a decade now!
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 wojo has an open invitation too whether he knows it or not.Hell everyone is invited.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 I've got first right on the bacon and corn on the cob!
Wojo 2,458 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Get your bacon while you can. Apparently there's going to be a bacon shortage.
MSM 194 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I bought the following dvds lately:- Becoming Jane- Miss Austen regrets- Barry Lyndon- Vatel- Emma (2009 TV)- Northanger Abbey- Sense and Sensibility (2008 TV)- Pride and Prejudice (1996 TV)- Amistad- Amazing Grace
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 A new jacket for autumn. Reduced from 50 to 30 euro, but the girl at the teller only charged me 10.Order Of The Phoenix and Half blood Prince on blu for 6 euro each.
Brónach 1,330 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 University registration fees.Shit. I need more money.
Wojo 2,458 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 You gotta love a set of desktop speakers with a headphone jack. Essential!
Maglorfin 219 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Indeed! It makes a great couple with my beloved AKG K 272 HDs!
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Isn't that standard these days? Or maybe it's just Logitech, I've always loved their products. Been buying them all the way since their wireless PS2 controller.
King Mark 3,975 Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 I upgraded some speakers for my home theater: 1 new center, rear channels and subwoofer. And I finally found a CLEAR article on how to set up a subwoofer correctly so it doesn't screw up the rest of the sound (because , it seems, nobody in geek forums really knows how to):http://www.audioholi...subwoofer-setup( I really should print it before I lose it)
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 I'm planning on making some big purchases in the next few months. iMac, 7.1 surround sound system, and a big TV... and I'm gonna somehow cram it all into my room.
Trent B 354 Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I bought these headphones at Wal-Mart for $20. They actually have pretty good sound for the film scores. I'm still going to be buying a new pair of V-Moda earbuds hopefully Tuesday so I can have those for when I'm out and about. They're Sony MDR-ZX100's.
A. A. Ron 2,485 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Finally just picked up the Indiana Jones Soundtrack collection, as well as the OST for Tomorrow Never Dies.Oh and I bought a box of cherry poptarts!!
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted November 5, 2012 Author Posted November 5, 2012 Cherry's the worst lol. Cinnamon is where it's at!
Trent B 354 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I'm not a fan of Cinnamon. I like Cherry, Strawberry and Smores the best for poptarts. Wojo 1
Wojo 2,458 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I agree wholeheartedly, Trent. I usually either can't tell or don't care about the difference between cherry and strawberry flavors, but a toasted S'mores or chocolate fudge Poptart is more of a dessert than a breakfast...it fills a hole until lunchtime.
Trent B 354 Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Well I finally bought the new pair of V-Moda earbuds from ebay. Hopefully they'll be here by the weekend or first of next week. Those Sony headphones I got sound good but hurt after wearing them for a bit with my glasses. I use a pair of KOSS earbuds that my dad has for the time being but those hurt my ears because of how big they are.
King Mark 3,975 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I bought a new PC today. I wanted to wait another 6 months, but Windows 7 PC's are getting scarce in stores and I didn't want to get stuck with Windows 8
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 My sister quite likes it.
hornist 1,261 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I have Windows 8 in my smartphone and looking forward to upgrade my PC to it. Definitely better that it's reputation. Wojo 1
Wojo 2,458 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 My cousin showed me his Windows 8 laptop, and the colorful Tonka truck interface is basically running on top of Windows 7. So it can be ignored. Hell, you can still buy XP if you want it, and could always install it if you own the disc.
Trent B 354 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I see no reason to upgrade to Windows 8. It has not received a lot of good reviews since the beta launch.
Wojo 2,458 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 If you buy a computer with a touchscreen interface and plan to use it as a high-end tablet with the additional hardware flexibility of a laptop or desktop, I'd say go for it. Until then, I even find myself longing for XP at times.
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I just hate Microsoft by default so I'll resist it as long as physically possible. It's a long way off, but my hope is that Ubuntu will be far more compatible by then.
Brónach 1,330 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I'll skip Windows 8 just like I skipped Vista.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I just hate Microsoft by default so I'll resist it as long as physically possible. It's a long way off, but my hope is that Ubuntu will be far more compatible by then.Perfectly compatible for my needs. Are you talking about hardware or software?
Quintus 6,496 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Probably both, but definitely mainly software. You know when you browse for a program and you go to the downloads page there's always links for various Windows and Mac? Well I need it to have that third OS option without fail before I make the jump.
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 It mostly depends on what kinds of programs you need. In general, you can't expect program X from one system to be available on another - that only sometimes works for Windows vs Mac, and even less frequently for Linux. Most big standard Windows/Mac programs are developed by big companies who only target system where they can make lots of money. That's rarely Linux, for two reasons: 1) It's still a niche system on the desktop and 2) the people who use it often don't need these programs. On the other hand, there's a ton of great open source software out there which typically runs on Linux and often also runs on other platforms. And that's all I've been using for years now, without regrets. I might miss Photoshop if I'd ever learned how to use it, but at least some versions supposedly run fine in Linux via Wine.
Brónach 1,330 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 With Linux, I've had faar more problems with hardware that I've had of software, which is why I'm forced to use Windows in my laptop. GNU/Linux's software "problems" are exagerated, specially for the normal user, and made minimal if I actually had both Win and a Linux distro installed, as I would like.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Linux is a nice idea, but a dead end!
Marian Schedenig 11,694 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 With Linux, I've had faar more problems with hardware that I've had of software, which is why I'm forced to use Windows in my laptop. GNU/Linux's software "problems" are exagerated, specially for the normal user, and made minimal if I actually had both Win and a Linux distro installed, as I would like.Hardware problems depend very much on the manufacturers. Not so much in regards as to what companies actually produce Linux drivers, but what chips they use and whether there's community support for those. Some chip sets are well supported, whereas others have such closed specifications that no decent third party drivers exist.Usually when you do some research before buying hardware, things work out fine. I've had some issues with hardware where the manufacturer switched chips after the reviews I'd read, so the earlier versions would work out of the box with Linux and the version I bought hardly worked at all (mostly WIFI cards). But other than that, I have no complaints. With laptops, Dell still seems to be a safe bet - Linux has been working out of the box on every Dell laptop I've tried it on for the past 10 years.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Usually when you do some research before buying hardware, things work out fine.Urgh....
Wojo 2,458 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 He said research. Eeney meeney miney moe isn't research.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I just cut of the chickens head and swing its body into the pentagram.
