#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Well 2013 was nice while it lasted...http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/jay-z-composing-original-score-great-gatsby-71006If you liked the music in the trailer for Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby," you'll be happy to hear Jay-Z isn't just lending a few of his songs to the soundtrack, he's composing the upcoming film's entire original score.
hornist 1,261 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Well, never been able to finish any of Luz's films, this time won't even bother to try.
Quintus 6,495 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 His duo with Kanye West entitled Clique is literally the worst track I heard in 2012.
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Yeah this has to be a joke or a huge mistake.I'll give certain rappers credit even though I find most rap to be crap but Jay Z is one of the worst I've ever heard.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Rap died with the Beasty Boys!
crocodile 9,724 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Can't wait for it to win an Oscar.in 2014.Karol
Ollie 1,375 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I enjoy some old school stuff, like RunDMC and Dougie Fresh.
Quintus 6,495 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Eminem and DMX were the last great rap acts.I enjoy some old school stuff, like RunDMC and Dougie Fresh.Aye.
Quintus 6,495 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Oh gee Bloodblot, I ain't ever heard that before until you said it.
Jilal 681 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I can't wait to hear Jay-Z's awesome electronic synth theme! The whole score is probably going to be build around it. Awesome! Bring it on, Jay!
Uni 307 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 We need to open a new thread: Do You Truly Hate Jay-Z? (Musically.)Coupla years of this, we'll be begging for Zimmer's latest.- Uni hornist 1
Richard P 5,302 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 But, that's not a joke website.Seriously?Give me a break, English ain't my mother tongue. I think I'm allowed a free pass for that one. We'll give you a free pass when you tell us where in Europe you're actually from!

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 What is it with women and France?
Genius_Gone_Insane 5 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I think it should be interesting. Nonconformity is good.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Nonconformity?Rap is nothing but conforming....
Cantus Venti 13 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Oh, we're considering these to be 'films.' That's news to me.
Brónach 1,330 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Oh, we're considering these to be 'films.' That's news to me.What are you talking about?
KK 3,313 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'd actually like to see a modern loyal adaptation of The Great Gatsby without the stylized trash of "Romeo + Juliet".
hornist 1,261 Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Baz is a very good director.Sure he is. But he makes incredibly bad and tasteless films. Typical MTV-generation wonderkid.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Who in the blue hell is Jay-Z?Give me a break, English ain't my mother tongue. I think I'm allowed a free pass for that one. We'll give you a free pass when you tell us where in Europe you're actually from! It's either Lichtenstein or Vatican City State.Vatican City! He's the pope!No wonder he feels like he has to rant all the time, all that bottled anger ...
hornist 1,261 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I'm sure he/she is from Liehctenstein, that would explain the enthusiasm towards the Middle-Earth.
KK 3,313 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I think Bloodboal is from New Zealand. He's bloody Peter Jackson himself.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Come, come, JWfaners; young minds, fresh ideas. be tolerant.O.k., so this score might be trash, but how many "seroius" film music fans baulked at the news that "Dune" was going to be scored by...Toto?Give the guy a chance.
hornist 1,261 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 And "Dune" turned out to be pure shit.No chance for the obvious failure.
KK 3,313 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I haven't seen the film, but I'm no fan of the score.
Naïve Old Fart 13,021 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 And "Dune" turned out to be pure shit.No chance for the obvious failure.Since when did you become the physical type?It may be "pure s**t", but a lot of people like it.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 I'm sure he/she is from Liehctenstein, that would explain the enthusiasm towards the Middle-Earth.If Bloodball turns out to be a she, all is forgiven!Hornist, any chance of an avatar pic from before your face was gnawed by rats?
Brónach 1,330 Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Are we talking about the *awesome* score from Dune?
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Craig Armstrong is still composing. It's called, now say it with me, co-llab-ora-tion. I'm honestly not surprised since his music was used in the trailer. Jay-Z is also one of two rap artists that I actually like.
Uni 307 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Y'know . . . this thread started as a sort of tongue-in-cheek, the-sky-is-falling stab at a rapper trying to pull off a film score. We had some good laughs, shook our heads, and moved on.Except . . . it's stuck in my mind now, and I'm beginning to wonder, "what if?" It seems everyone these days is trying to find a fresh techno angle on just about anything that moves. How long will it be, really, before this trend begins to impact the scoring industry? We've already seen Daft Punk score an entire film. What's next? Who'll be the first artist to cross the big line—a rapper/beat-boxer conductor? How soon can we expect to wait before we see some artist with a stage name ("Queen Motifah?") standing at the podium waving a baton with one hand and scratching a record with the other? What the hell's going ON in the world. . . ?!Thanks, Steef, for opening up a whole new realm of fear for me.- Uni
Wojo 2,458 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Someday we might look back and mention Jay-Z in the ranks along with Danny Elfman, Randy Newman, Hans Zimmer, and Daft Punk of artists who began in one genre and successfully stepped into film score composition.Maybe.
Wycket 36 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Craig Armstrong is still composing. It's called, now say it with me, co-llab-ora-tion. I'm honestly not surprised since his music was used in the trailer. Jay-Z is also one of two rap artists that I actually like. You have a link for that? All I saw was that Jay-Z was collaborating with another rapper who called it "Dope". I like Armstrong's work on Incredible Hulk and a few others but hardly have any interest in this score (or movie) now.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I'll find it when I'm home. As for Uni's irrational fear of change and progress, Daft Punk's score for Tron Legacy was one of the best of 2010.
Jill Sandwich 11,166 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Another overhyped Baz disaster that Australian media shills will pretend to praise because he's "our Baz".
Uni 307 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I'll find it when I'm home. As for Uni's irrational fear of change and progress, Daft Punk's score for Tron Legacy was one of the best of 2010.Change? Who's afraid of change? Just 'cause I like my LP's the way they are. . . .Now get off my lawn!- Uni
Wojo 2,458 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Behold! The death of classical music!http://www.bbc.co.uk...nology-20889644"We have taught a computer to write musical scores," says Gustavo Diaz-Jerez, software consultant and pianist. "Now we can produce modern classical music at the touch of a button."
