Brónach 1,330 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I think what we hear is the bassline of the would-be theme. To be honest, that overdone bassline of the would-be theme was a guilty pleasure of mine when it came out.
Once 1,083 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Yeah, I seem to remember watching a behind-the-scenes video about the score. It was something like;Jackman: “I dunno man, you can’t use that, that’s just the bass line! There’s no tune!”Vaughn: “You don’t need a fucking tune! Just play the bass line!"Quite amusing, actually.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Yeah Jackman had gone it wanting to write a full on Superman-esque orchestral score and ended up being limited to the usual summer blockbuster fare.

Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Jackman? There was a video interview on FSMO that people keep referencing. He wrote a great theme and Vaughn went "That! I like that part, make it the theme," and he goes, "The fucking bassline?!" Once 1
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Epic anecdote. It shows everything wrong with the business nowadays.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Still doesnt say it was gonna be Superman-esque
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I don't remember it word for word Steef. He mentioned Superman by name in how he wanted to approach the score.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 like he has the talent to do that!
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Hanz Zimmer told Zack Snyder you need a better composer to write the score for Man of Steel, and Zack true but they're all dead, or in one case waiting to die, and he won't work for me.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 like he has the talent to do that!To write Williams' Superman? No, no one does. To write a great orchestral score? Yes, he's already proven that.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Puss In Boots and Monsters Vs. Aliens. Quint is quite fond of Kick-Ass, too.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 These are GREAT scores?
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Puss In Boots is awesome.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhqLUEzkotY
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Psycho, The Empire Strikes Back, Alien, The Rocketeer, Puss In Boots, The Omen.Yep, fits right in.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I just heard that video BloodBoal posted and I found it obnoxious. There's nothing great in there.Kick-Ass pretty much only contains interesting snippets mixed with other angles for the music and otyher composers and songs.First Class was a sabotaged score. Still, the rest of the score other than magneto's bass line is unmemorable. So I'd need something else You want GREAT? Take great:
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I just heard that video BloodBoal posted and I found it obnoxious. There's nothing great in there. You say this because the score is full of Spanish music clichés, so you don't want to admit you like the music, because that would be like betraying your country. I don't blame you for that.

Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I thought the general way it went was: Bad, Okay/Average, Good, Great, Excellent, Masterpiece, whatever. Great to me means a solid 3 star score.
BloodBoal 8,711 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I thought the general way it went was: Bad, Okay/Average, Good, Great, Excellent, Masterpiece, whatever. I'd put "Whatever" before "Bad". After "Masterpiece", that doesn't make any sense.

JoeinAR 1,957 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 This film has a chance to be epic in scale.it also has a chance to be nothing more than a parade of who is who in the X-men universe.
Matt C 605 Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 This film has a chance to be epic in scale.it also has a chance to be nothing more than a parade of who is who in the X-men universe.I personally think if Bryan Singer actually pulls this off successfully (and it's a good chance he will), Days of Future Past will be one of the biggest movies of 2014. With a cast this big and well known, coming off the well-received First Class, I think it could do Avenger-sized numbers.Seriously.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 X-Men First Class didn't even reach blockbuster status and grossed under 150 million. We'll see how well Wolverine does this late summer but Avenger numbers have only happened twice before and I don't sense the love for X-men like the love for Avengers.

Mix that in with all the returning actors from the first films, and this may be a huge film, but only if Singer can find the magic again.
crocodile 9,724 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 You'd be surprised. Zimmer was just announced to do the new Spider-Man film.Karol
Incanus 5,890 Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Wasn't Zimmer supposed to ease down on the work load? I remember him mentioning something to that effect a few years ago.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Two Xaviers! Are they gonna do bald jokes? Stewart generally doesn't like them.
