stewdog1 50 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I'm glad we finally have a poster with the Enterprise on it. Something sorely lacking since First Contact.. Wojo 1
stewdog1 50 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Oops, forgot about that one. I was thinking of the faces poster.
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I am probably the only person on this planet that thinks this poster is pretty cool. Karol
stewdog1 50 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I am probably the only person on this planet that thinks this poster is pretty cool. KarolThe STID one? I like it!Although it looks too realistic if that makes any sense. It should be a little more stylized.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Oops, forgot about that one. I was thinking of the faces poster.that one is easy to forget since it's a complete piece of shit poster.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 ?KarolThe difference between this and the other shitty posters is that this one is based around simple idea that works and it doesn't hurt the eyes. So yeah I prefer this.I actually have a thing for simple posters that try to express the most with the least elements.

Brónach 1,330 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 ??Poster with shape of the Enterprise at warp: simple. Watchable. All of the posters for Star Trek Into Darkness: terrible and boring.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Well, posters for remakes are usually easy to make.Posters for sequels to remakes, not so much.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Just saw the poster with the falling Enterprise. It's the fist serious try I see for this film!
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 ??Poster with shape of the Enterprise at warp: simple. Watchable. All of the posters for Star Trek Into Darkness: terrible and boring.it's not at warp in that poster.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 It isn't?I think in the film it that a similar effect of lines when it was at warp but I'm not sure.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,383 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 That Star Trek 2009 Enterprise poster doesnt resemble any warp or impulse effect in the canon! Maybe if the nacelles have a leak and Interon Particles hit tacyons drifting through subspace such an effect is plausible but unlikely.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Maybe the warp isn't represented in the back so we can distinguish the ship.
Ollie 1,375 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I could count on one finger how many times I've been in a movie theatre or standing in line and heard someone complain about a poster.
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Well, I don't give a shit what most people say. I like it.Karol
Richard P 5,302 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Am I the only person who still thinks that the title 'Into Darkness' is absolute crap? What I've seen of the plot is hardly original, and apparently it's all top secret anyway, so they can't come up with a better title... but everything in film nowadays is 'darker' and more gritty, so that's the title.Seems about as meaningless as 'Game of Shadows' for the Sherlock sequel.
Pieter Boelen 1,032 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Am I the only person who still thinks that the title 'Into Darkness' is absolute crap? What I've seen of the plot is hardly original, and apparently it's all top secret anyway, so they can't come up with a better title... but everything in film nowadays is 'darker' and more gritty, so that's the title.Seems about as meaningless as 'Game of Shadows' for the Sherlock sequel.Absolutely agreed. It's a brilliant title if the effect they're going for is to disinterest me intensely.I - REALLY - CAN - NOT - STAND Modern Movie Syndrome with its dark and gritty stupidity on subjects that really aren't served well by it."Dark and gritty" is interpreted completely the wrong way. There are parts of the old "The Adventures of Robin Hood" that are quite serious and nasty and look how colourful THAT film is.To me, if they just go with unfun, literally dark stuff, it creates a substantial detachment on my part. Not to mention that the REAL world is NOT that dark. I still remember the review of the 1962 Mutiny on the Bounty which faulted that film for being too brightly coloured.Except that those type of islands they visited there really DO look like that. I know; I've seen them. And the Pirates of the Caribbean films were shot in the actual Caribbean and they made it look like the North Sea.Just look at the "Making Of" documentaries for what it REALLY looks like. So WHY do they mess around with this so much???And what's so cool about "dark and gritty" anyway? Especially when EVERYTHING has to be "dark and gritty". Enough already!
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Actually I think the title so far is the most original thing about the film, unless you cut it down to "Into Darkness". Here they did that because the word play didn't work.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I don't see more dark and gritty films than I have at any point in my 33 years of life. (23 if you discount pre-sentient life )
Pieter Boelen 1,032 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 But there's a very distinct effect these days where some films are dark and gritty that truly shouldn't be.Even light-hearted entertainment has to be dark and gritty these days. That's not right.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I still hope it's good but I'm prepared for the worst.
Richard P 5,302 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 It's not just the idea that everything now has to be dark, serious, all-stakes; but that in this case, they couldn't find anything better to describe the plot - which from what I've seen is because it doesn't have one we haven't seen a million times before.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 The only part I don't understand from the trailers is where JH is leading Kirk and co. and why.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 That's cool. Pity the setting of that scene is irrelevant and a mere excuse.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Well...it's not completely irrelevant. There's actually important character development in that shot in the poster actually.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Well...it's not completely irrelevant. There's actually important character development in that shot in the poster actually. I know, I'm referring to the volcano. That shot makes me think on some sort of climatic scene but it's just in the prologue setting up a theme for the film. I have no idea what they might have come up with for the ending.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 It's not just the idea that everything now has to be dark, serious, all-stakes; but that in this case, they couldn't find anything better to describe the plot - which from what I've seen is because it doesn't have one we haven't seen a million times before.Since when do titles have to directly describe the plot? I'd say about 99% of the them don't.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Do Star Trek titles describe the movie?X Star Trek The Motion Picture More like Star Trek The Motionless Picture√ Star Trek The Wrath of KhanKhan is indeed Wrathful.√ Star Trek The Search for SpockThe gang does indeed search for Spock√ Star Trek The Voyage Home[EDIT] Joey reminded me they actually voyage home. X Star Trek The Final FrontierWhat the ever-loving fuck?DRAW Star Trek The Undiscovered CountryThere is indeed Shakespeare quoted in the movie. But it's a bit of a stretch for the content of the film...though I guess the Klingon-Federation alliance could be an undiscovered country. But really it isn't undiscovered, because we have been exploring it in TNG. √ Star Trek GenerationsThere are indeed generations of people in this movie...though I would personally go with "Star Trek Stopping the Madman Who Wants to Destroy a Planet"√ Star Trek First ContactFirst Contact with the Vulcans is an important plot point of this movieX Star Trek InsurrectionMore like Star Trek Forever Young and Light InsubordinationX Star Trek NemesisNemesis "the inescapable agent of someone's downfall." Picard does not fall down.√ Star TrekThere is some Trekking between stars. Jay 1
Ollie 1,375 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Frankly film titles that have "Motion Picture" or "The Movie" in them are rather dumb.I mean, no shit, right?
