Care to elaborate?

The first trailer deliberately did not snow much, and went for a certain style. Moody, bit angsty...Nolan-ish. It was a deliberate choice.

You hated it, the movie was gonna suck bla bla bla...

This new one leans on Superman The Movie and you love it, looking forward to the film bla bla bla.

Even ignoring the action and special effects stuff, just the interactions between characters was drastically better in this trailer compared to the prior ones.

In the old trailer, Pa Kent saying that Clark "maybe" should have let a bus full of kids drown really rubbed me the wrong way, but in this trailer all of his lines, and Jor El's lines, were great! Also Lois got more to do, and we finally learned a little bit about the plot. There's still a lot that hasn't been explained, but those old trailers were just... boring to me.

that bothered many people including me.

there was a definite Donner vibe to this trailer. now Superman is about HOPE again.

I just hope this movie is satisfyingly dense with both depth (rewatchability factor) and content (well paced, lots going on, no dawdling). Density in terms of dialogue a la Batman is where I lose interest immediately after seeing it. The film's main draw shouldn't be its plot.

You are remembering incorrectly or confusing me with somebody else, I never said those things!

And FYI, I don't even like the original Superman movie (or any of the sequels). the opening Smallville part is great, and the early Metropolis scenes, but then it just gets really dull and silly.

Same with the score, I love the opening Krypton and Smallville music, but everything after the romantic flight cue just doesn't do anything for me.

And yet you worship Hook like it's the best thing ever!

Ban him.

oh wait.

I still need to write my gushing review of the score, and why it is John's best.

Hook and Empire Strikes Back vascillate as my favorite John Williams score

then there are those of us who never tire of Superman the score. even over the years I've develops a deep fondness of March of the Villains, epecially when Williams gets a bit mean with it.

It is possible for this film to be great on whatever level, even better than Donner's film, yet it really isn't in competition. Both films can have a place in each of our hearts if we so choose.

Stefan, as far as I know only the Superman anthology has the correct version of Superman.

during it's first restoration the sound tech recreated a lot of new sound effects which for us purists who know every scene by heart were mortified. On the Superman Anthology the first disc has the original sound under the languages. It allows the giant S to explode on the screen and the departure of Jorel's ark sounds terrifically proper.

but it you don't really care just get the cheap one.

Jorel's arc departure was raped and left for dead by the remaster. In the original, the music there, the way the percussion smashes through the glass structure, made my nipples lactate milk.

wow,

but I do not disagree with your sentiments. Neither does Neil.

By the way, the theme (if that's what those repetitive four chords are), reminds a bit of James Bond Theme.

Play these chords:

Superman:

do-mi-sol,

do-mib-lab,

do-fa-la,

lab-do-mib-sol

James Bond:

do -mib -sol,

do-mib-lab,

do-mib-la,

do-mib-lab

Where did Jorel go in the first movie? It's been years since I watched it.

The new trailer is a tad bit more promising. Music isn't anything to make me change my mind.

I assume he died along with the rest of the Crypton inhabitants! :)

To be fair, I haven't liked anything Superman in my life. Film, TV, comic, score, music, etc. etc.

ok. Did you know that this means "Hidden" in Greek?

I'm rewatching the trailer, and Zimmer's music is starting to grow on me. Maybe it's because I'm used to John Williams and Shirley Walker's work, but Zimmer's approach isn't necessarily bad. I do like how that drum loop is used in the trailer.

You're not done correcting typos.

Come again?

Who says it's a theme, or anything significant in terms of score? Typical JWFan hears 90 seconds of Zimmer: AHHH THIS SCORE IS SHIT SHIT SHIT FUCKING ASSHOLE NEEDS TO DIE!

The score, what?

We are talking about the music in the trailer. It's like you can't stand that some don't like it.

Classic Zimmer - the strings do sound very Inception-esque and the chord sequences do mildly remind me of the Avengers Assemble score, but I guess it's pleasant to hear a more heroic major theme as opposed to the minor Batman stuff. I particularly love the moment at 2:00 as the music erupts into that powerful horn motif.

He can't. This is the board's most ardent Zimmer supporter, after all. Which is absolutely fine. We've been over this countless times before.

sorry for the interruption to the conversation, but I'm looking for the 1978 Superman opening sequence with the original sound effects (not the new effects). I had found it in youtube once, but i can't anymore.

Does anyone have it in mind?

Don't you remember he corrected Lois when she tried to spell it with a C, though she went Cri,

Superman Anthology blu set, disc one, go to the language selection and select original soundtrack, I think it's a 2.0

I don't have the Bluray yet.

I meant in youtube, i wanted to post it in my facebook! ;)

oh, just a quick question then sicne you mentioned itL

Only the theatrical version features the original track?

I thought Zimmer did something original for this? Is that ominous drum circle included in this trailer music? Because all I hear is Zimmer's string chopping with somewhat heavier drum support. And a variation on the basic approach to Batman, even though there is a power anthem like figure coming through.

Altogether, I don't hear anything that breaks the Zimmer formula.

I DON'T HEAR ANYTHING THAT BREAKS THE ZIMMER FORMULA.

Do you know what I always wonder?

What Williams would think when he heard Zimmer's music? I mean his real opinion, that maybe he couldn't speak out..

Not everyone can be John Williams, who breaks the formula every time he does something. ;)

I'm pretty sure John Williams invents a new audible frequency every time HE writes a score.

Well, i can't believe that a composer with his knowledge and status, doesn't have ANY opinion at all.

I find it funny that the once biggest basher of Zimmer on this site has a great wait and see attitude.

Why should he? Obviously he stopped watching those kind of movies a long time ago (the man has taste, after all) and would just realize that the music has become simplified and pop-oriented. And still, they are worldwide blockbusters, so he likely would deduce that it's the kind of music this generation craves - why bother listening to a 70-minute onslaught of it?

No I have no problem with objective responses to Zimmer's music. The board never changes which is why I've more or less oven up explaining my tongue-in-cheek reactions.
