because eating one piece of bacon is like eating one potato chip.

not in such simplistic terms.

See Jane cook bacon. See Dick eat bacon. And eat. And eat. And eat. More bacon. More. See Spot. Spot has no bacon.

Posted

spot is very sad. he would make some more but he doesn't have opposable thumbs.

Posted

Dick is too busy eating bacon to feed Spot. Jane can't leave the stove to feed Spot because Dick needs more bacon. When Spot dies, he becomes bacon.

so spot is a vietnamese pot bellied pig?

have you ever had beef bacon. I don't particularly care for it myself, it has a line of connective tissue through it that is unappealing.

it is not a processed product like turkey bacon. It's actually cut from beef belly. It's generally not cured and it isn't a sweet. It's in all our grocery stores but you can get it from a Halal butcher.

I generally buy thick bacon, we each eat 3 to 6 pieces. but our thick isn't quite like your thick, and we like ours cooked more.

Sunday I was up in NH at my girlfriend's parent's place and we had a cookout for Marcy and her brother's birthdays.

Her mom had bought local chicken breasts from a local farm and marinated one in buffalo sauce and one in italian dressing.

She also had a pound of local ground beef from a different local farm, and I made them into 3 1/3-pound patties that I stuffed with cheese and bacon (you start by making six patties, making a little pile of cheese and bacon in the middle of three of them, then taking the other three and placing them on top, and pinching the sides together). I also put salt, pepper, and garlic seasoning into the patty meat.

Marcy also took asparagus (not local, of course) and tossed it in olive oil and balsamic. I grilled up all that, along with a veggie patty for Marcy

It all came out excellently. We also had a home-made salad, a home-made pasta salad, and a summer slaw and buffalo chicken pasta salad from the local Hannaford's

I would absolutely host a JWFan cook-out if I had a house instead of a condo and lived closer to Boston

Posted

A house is an independent building with a yard and probably a driveway and garage

I live in a 5 story building that used to be a mill a hundred years ago, and was converted into condos in 2007. So now it's 63 individually owned units. We share hallways and have a mailbox area, etc. There's a gym and a communal garage and a parking lot.

So basically condos are like apartments, but instead of a landlord owning the entire building and renting each unit out, each unit is individually owned. I have a mortgage, etc.

where in New Hampshire Jason?

Posted

Northwood.

thats not to far from Somersworth, going toward Concord, course NH is pretty small.

ever state in New England with the exception of Maine is smaller than the Netherlands.

Like the Netherlands, Vermont is home to some fine cheese makers, so is New Hampshire.

Koray, still not sure why one piece of bacon is weird to you?

Well here it's not typically a main course, and like Joey and Wojo said people don't really just eat one. I don't know, it just looks odd on a plate like that, to me. I'm not a huge fan of bacon myself, tends to be too salty.

speaking of bacon, tonight I'm making stuffed mushrooms,

cream cheese, little bit of shredded parm, dash of soy and worsteshire, chopped scallions(lots of the green part for color), minced garlic, salt, pepper, and chopped bacon,

mix all together. tonight I'm using small mushrooms, stem removed, a small flat cut onto the top of the cap so it sits nicely.

stuff mushrooms with cream cheese mixture. back at 450 for 17 to 20 min. until browned.

bacon is a main course for breakfast in the US but not for lunch or dinner as a rule unless you're having a BLT, bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich.

As the tomatoes get better next month BLT's will be a main course at supper at least once if not twice a week.

Bacon can be a side, too. Order a big stack of pancakes, a waffle, or big omelet, and you choose bacon, ham, or sausage. (All processed which will kill you.) The meat is treated as a side in the menu, but I would love to order a plate of bacon with an omelet on the side.

with Memorial Day approaching it's time to think about barbecuing.

ribs are always on sale in the US during Memorial Day(last Monday in May), Fourth of July, and Labor Day(First Monday in Sept.).

I'm not always a fan of bbq. I make a very good and complex bbq but it's such a pain to make. However it lasts for up to a year in the fridge because of the amount of vinegar. It's has a building heat that is not discernable with the first bite, but it grows.

with my new grill I want to do a pork loin, a pork butt, a beef brisket, some sausages, and a small chicken. Naturally this is an absolute feast of food that the two of us can't hope to eat.

What I normally like to do is start my grill around 10pm at night and put the brisket on first since it will take the longest. I like to cook my brisket 10 to 12 hours and take the 2nd cut off and let is go another 4 hours or so. The pork butt and loin take a much shorter time as does the chicken and sausage.

Still not sure of the difference between BBQ and grill

here is a quick easy way to remember

bbq is low and slow, grilling is hot and fast.

bbq takes a long time to cook at low temps, while grilling takes a short amount of time at high temps.

Posted

It's similar to the difference between a slow cooker and a pressure cooker.

Posted

I think the main difference is that grilling puts the meat directly over the flame, while BBQ sort of keeps it separate and lets the heat and smoke do its work over time.

Looks good and delicious Steef.

My apologies.

we ate at golden corral last week. it's okay for 11 bucks, especially on Sundays after church when they have turkey and all the black ladies are out wearing their 3 and 4 hundred dollar hats.

Koray you like crap like Chipotles and then rag on Golden Corral, that's hysterical.

after seeing Ken Jong in Hangover 3 Dave and I both want a little chinese

I had my only burger in Boston's replica Cheers bar. It was good but the trip and experience are what made it memorable.
