Nah, many of the books and comics that came out after the SW Trilogy were great. It's just that the George-Lucas run stuff like the Prequel movies that sucked.

Some screenshots from the Earthquake Bluray in case anyone is interested to buy it:

why would that be spoilers?

why would that be spoilers?

because the size of the pictures is large, and it may take a bit to load the page to some..

So, in case anyone doesn't want to see them, it'd be better to put them in spoilers so as to avoid waiting for this page to load.

okay,

btw I have the 2006 Terminator blu and while the remastered offers superior picture quality I won't double dip on it. The original film was not a beauty on the big screen, I don't expect it to be a beauty off it.

well, the difference is radical, but whatever you like.

But it's still annoying that they didn't include the original audio track with the original effects. Anyway...

(still waiting for The Abyss and True Lies...)

I doubt it's radical, improvement yes, radical no.

Judging solely by that single screenshot filmmusic posted, I'd call it radical.

I never liked the second movie and haven't seen the last two, but I want the first one on Blu.

it was renamed to that just recently.

Wait, they actually remastered Terminator instead of just rereleasing the same shitty transfer like they've been doing for 8 years?

Need to buy this.

The original Terminator is such a cool film

Posted

I totally prefer the original Terminator over the second one. It's a great sequel, don't get me wrong.

Posted

Yes.

Posted

Everybody does except me. I think Cameron is a much, MUCH better and more eloquent storyteller in the second one. And it's got the T-1000!

Anyway ...

Battlestar Galactica!

By the way, i have never seen the film. Is it good?

it's just the first couple of episodes edited into a film, of course the film was released in Senssuround.

In the late seventies, I was a huge Star Wars fan, so naturally I went to see Battlestar Galactica. To my disappointment, I saw a film that merely wanted to sail on the waves of the mighty Star Wars. I was, however, a loyal follower of the TV series. What can I say, I was really hungry for sci-fi in those days. Most of it was bad though. The only filmmaker who could match the greatness of Star Wars was Ridley Scott. I'm still waiting for the next sci-fi master, someone who will rock my world all over again. Will it happen? I sorta lost hope by now.

so if and when it happens it will be a great experience for you sir.

like Alex I prefer T2 over The Terminator, but I love both films, I just think that as good as the first is T2 is just better, not because of the technology but because of the heart and soul of the picture.

And I gotta say this if you're a female actor and Cameron comes knocking on your door he's very likely to have a kick ass role for you. Take the job.

Posted

I love both films too, both great for different reasons.

I love the stop motion animation in The Terminator, is it as realistic as the effects in T2, NO, but it has a dream like quality that mkes its scarier, it's like seeing life in a weird type of tunnel vision. Death is coming for you an it will not be stopped by anything. T2 wisely takes a different approach. It's kind of sad that T2 is now 22 years old and it still holds up well as a standard of how CGI should be used.

I agree T2 should have been the base on how CG should be used. Didn't ILM do the CG for T2?

Psycho II will be coming out Sept 24th. excellent. it's a very enjoyable sequel and the Jerry Goldsmith score is excellent.

T1 has the great character of Kyle Reese, and he helps shape Sarah Connor into someone you can believe to be a fighter. In T2, this fighter has gone psycho and ended up in the loony bin, and her child is a smack talking pansy who we can't ever imagine will ever lead the revolution. And for as great as the T-1000 effects wise is, its physical impossibly makes it more magic than science fiction. T2 may have the awesome scene of Arnold cutting his arm open, but it's no eyeball in the sink.

Finally, T1 permits Bill Paxton to be killed by a Terminator. He would later be killed by an Alien and a Predator, becoming the only actor to earn this honor (Lance Henriksen cannot count).

Posted

But you guys are film snobs, especially Alex. Therefore you should like Terminator One better!

Film snobs talk about independent film in coffee houses and look down on Cameron and his blue-collar audience.

Posted

I think I like T1 better as well. Although I really enjoy T2, specially around the end, and the hospital scenes.

Amazon is having a Blu sale right now it appears, as I was glancing through the section and many recent releases are only $15. Now, its mostly films that bombed like Parker, Gangster Squad, and A Good Day to Die Hard, but maybe someone will find something.

Posted

T1 is definitely the better film. It's like a horror movie. 1 and 2 are not that similar, different styles entirely.

One of my favourite films from my teens comes in Bluray in UK (by the way, exceptional music score by Richard Robbins):

I don't know if I have to wait in case Criterion releases one. (although I understand there was some legal conflict with Ivory).

I would love to couple it with Criterion's Howards End.

Vincent Price's House of Wax is coming to Blu on 10-01-13. It's going to be in it's native 3D. Love me some old horror films.

I agree, Richard Robbins' score is beautiful. The film is great too but it doesn't blow me away on an intellectual level as Howards End does. Either way, both films represent the zenith of Ivory/Merchant.

Well, I like Maurice (both film and score), even better than the 2 of them , and I hope someone releases it soon in BLuray.

Maurice is my favorite Robbins score. The film didn't make much of an impact on me. I remember it to be somewhat aimless.

yes I was aware of that, thanks, but I want the Mad Magician and The Tingler.

After waiting it out I finally just bought E.T. on Blu. £5.77 on Amazon was reasonable for a movie I've already seen a million times. Can't wait to watch this and Jaws with my kids. My life will be complete.

E.T. it's one of the most gorgeous Blurays!!!

I have a digibook which is very beautiful too.

I love the ET blu, it's even got the arm wrong at the end like when it was released.

Posted

have you not ever watched the movie? when E.T. goes to touch Elliott at the end, the arm is backwards. it was corrected in the 2002 release.
