Max 154 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I wonder who the recording engineer is?It looks like Joel Iwataki again.http://instagram.com/p/abKv2-Fdjz/
Offline 29 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Uh you do realize that films are edited to music most of the time, right? A composer doesn't need a final cut to write anything, particularly themes.Where did you hear that? They don't need a final cut to write themes of course, but they do need the final cut to write the cues, that's why they have spotting sessions. To determine where the music goes with the edit of the film. Not the other way around
Max 154 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Uh you do realize that films are edited to music most of the time, right? If "films are edited to music most of the time," why would Spielberg emphasize the fact that he edited the end of E.T. to Williams's score?
Jay 46,243 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I think Koray is implying that films are edited to SOME music (ie, the temp track), not necessarily the final score by the film's composer.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Uh you do realize that films are edited to music most of the time, right? If "films are edited to music most of the time," why would Spielberg emphasize the fact that he edited the end of E.T. to Williams's score? You're supporting my point.I think Koray is implying that films are edited to SOME music (ie, the temp track), not necessarily the final score by the film's composer.Yes; but whether it's temp track or original music is beside the point, editors typically work with music when it comes to action scenes and such.
Max 154 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Uh you do realize that films are edited to music most of the time, right? If "films are edited to music most of the time," why would Spielberg emphasize the fact that he edited the end of E.T. to Williams's score? You're supporting my point.I meant that if editing film to music happens "most of the time," why would Spielberg brag about doing it like it was something special?
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Because it's a big compliment to the composer's music that the filmmakers bend their work to it. Also because it's typically temp music, where the editors will craft scenes to other film scores or samples and then have a composer come in to add original music to the scene. Allowing a composer to write without the influence of a temp track is a privilege. Having the movie edited to his or her music is an even greater one.
Matt C 605 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 And judging by the booth Iwataki and Giacchino are in, they're not in L.A. for the spotting sessions. Is this Giacchino's first time recording in London?
Jay 46,243 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 He's going with Iwataki over Wallin again? SWEET!

Jay 46,243 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I'm a busy man, and there's only enough room in my brain for so much knowledge!
Matt C 605 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I'm actually surprised Giacchino is recording Jupiter Ascending in London. I know filming took place mostly in the UK, as well as post-production work, but I thought Giacchino was one of the staunchest supporters of L.A.-based recordings.Should be interesting to hear UK musicians interpret Giacchino's style...
Hlao-roo 390 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I expect it will sound decidedly villainous.
chuck 155 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I expect to hear a Hans Solo-type theme for Sean Bean. Ten bucks says he's going to die as well.

I believe the same thing nearly happened with John Carter but Giacchino insisted on recording in the US.
chuck 155 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Well what made MG finally caved in?You know if MG was the one who was probably given the opportunity to score SW7, it's a highly likely possibility he will gonna use the LSO.
Luke Skywalker 2,383 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I expect to hear a Hans Solo-type theme for Sean Bean. Ten bucks says he's going to die as well.han solo has a theme?

I believe the same thing nearly happened with John Carter but Giacchino insisted on recording in the US.Yeah, that surprised me. I thought for sure Giacchino would've acquiesced for John Carter, but I think he had wiggle room in his contract for having input on where the score was recorded. WB and Marvel Studios' contractual obligations are much harder to wiggle out of though.
Jim Ware 638 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 The crunch of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and John Carter may have swung things. Both were recorded concurrently in LA, with Giacchino and his team alternating between the two films.
Jay 46,243 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Actually MI4 was done recording before John Carter startedMission Impossible 4 recordings sessions were August 29th and October 3-5, 2011John Carter recording sessions were October 17-18, November 15-16, December 7-8, 2011.
Matt C 605 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Teaser trailer: I'm not sure about this film. It could be a beautiful but lame misfire, or it could be next summer's sleeper hit.
Max 154 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I think the movie looks cool, and I'm really liking Giacchino's music. I wonder if it was composed for the trailer or if it's actually from the film. For all those asking, yes, that's my music in the Jupiter Ascending trailer. https://twitter.com/m_giacchino/status/410248763437875200
Matt C 605 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I didn't even know Giacchino scored the teaser. It sounded very different than what he's done in the past. It's very promising, especially the choral passages.
Red 75 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I thought the trailer music sounded distinctive.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 That sounds fantastic. Looks like he's back in top form.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Agreed. I've been waiting to hear what he was going to do with this one for a while. My indecisive gif was directed only towards the film itself, to be clear.
KK 3,313 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Huh, I noticed the music sounded pretty good and distinctive from the usual trailer junk. Glad to know it was written by Giacchino. Looking forward to how the score turns out.I don't know what to think about the movie though.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 It looks decent enough. I'm the only person that thought Speed Racer was terrific, so I'm looking forward to this one. Recently picked up Cloud Atlas on blu, need to give that a whirl.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Speed Racer was just... different. I didn't mind it. Hope you enjoy Cloud Atlas as much as I did.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 If you cut out the kid and his monkey you're left with great action scenes, kick ass music, and cool visuals.
crocodile 9,724 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Sounds like trailer music...Karol Not Mr. Big 1
Matt C 605 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Sean Bean's character dies in this film.We don't know that yet, but it is becoming an annoying trait in Bean's work of late.
Jay 46,243 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Wow, cool trailer! I had no idea what to expect with this film, and I have to say I'm impressed with what I see. I feel like it's been a while since a Sci-fi movie came out that just took risks and went wild with Sci-fi ideas instead if playing it safe. Can't wait to see the final product, hope it excels!
Jonesy 55 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I liked the trailer, so I hope the film will be great.BTW, Giacchino wrote the music for the trailer. For all those asking, yes, that's my music in the Jupiter Ascending trailer.https://twitter.com/m_giacchino/status/410248763437875200
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Yes that's what we've been discussing for the last few posts.
Jonesy 55 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 My bad, I'm afraid that I didn't read libraloco's post.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Looks like Star Wars versus The Matrix to me, starring a Vulcan or Elf.
KK 3,313 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 In a way, it reminds me of a futuristic John Carter.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 What's John Carter?
Luke Skywalker 2,383 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 seems to have great potential for a cool score
Jay 46,243 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Steef, I think you would like John Carter actually (the film I mean). It gets the Neil Bulk (Who?) seal of approval as well.
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Good to see some f'in Science Fiction again! What is this, the first one since John Carter? Instantly recognized Michael Giacchino's music...unmistakable percussion. From this thread it looks like it is actually his? I would imagine it's been specifically trailer-fied for these purposes. What's John Carter? You numb skull. Watch it this weekend. It gets the Neil Bulk (Who?) seal of approval as well. Joey too if I recall. Most of us around here have given it our seal of approval. It's a wonderful movie.
Hlao-roo 390 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Agreed. I've been waiting to hear what he was going to do with this one for a while. My indecisive gif was directed only towards the film itself, to be clear.I thought he was constipated.
