BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 No pansy-assery. You pick one set, not a list of ten. I don't particularly care much for 2001: A Space Odyssey but I do recognize its great visual effects, artistic design and production values. And this by far is my favorite movie set:
indy4 160 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 - The Chocolate Room from the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.- The sacrificial room from ToD.- intro to Munchkinland from Wizard of Oz.- Jack's Lament scene from Nightmare Before Christmas.- Dracula's castle (1979)indy4, a pansy/ass
Thor 9,362 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The ones from the ALIEN films. And BLADE RUNNER. And JURASSIC PARK.
alicebrallice 134 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I can't come up with a single one because I'm distracted by blume's signature. how.... dare... you.....
Incanus 5,890 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I can't come up with a single one because I'm distracted by blume's signature.how.... dare... you.....Ditto.
Quintus 6,496 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 - The Chocolate Room from the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.- The sacrificial room from ToD.- intro to Munchkinland from Wizard of Oz.- Jack's Lament scene from Nightmare Before Christmas.- Dracula's castle (1979)indy4, a pansy/assSorry Indy, I skipped over your post because reading a list felt like a lot of effort at the time.
Incanus 5,890 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 great choice Lee!Indeed! Orca is one brilliant set.
Richard P 5,303 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I can't come up with a single one because I'm distracted by blume's signature.how.... dare... you.....Ditto.What they said. And no, I won't name a film set. You can't start a topic with that signature and not expect repercussions...
Neimoidian 15 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 great choice Lee!Indeed! Orca is one brilliant set.It's just ... a boat.
Wojo 2,458 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 great choice Lee!Indeed! Orca is one brilliant set. It's just ... a boat. It's only a boat if you look at it from the water.
KK 3,313 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 vMinas Tirith is probably my favourite. Followed by Edoras and Hobbiton.
Quintus 6,496 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Certainty some of the most sumptuously detailed sets ever built.
KK 3,313 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 indeed. I was gonna pick hobbiton. It's a shame that they took out all the colour from the doors and porches after the film was completed and Hobbiton became a tourist attraction. It would have been nice if they left it as it was. But at least its back in shape for the film alicebrallice 1
SF1_freeze 138 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 What can i say, i agree with KK who already posted Hobbiton. This and Bag-End just rules everything else!(By the way, For the Hobbit films Hobbiton was redone as a permanent attraction (in film decoration) for years to come)Other favorites: - Circus Train from Last Crusade, - Streets and appartement from Bladerunner, - The public appartement complex and Anderton's flat from Minority Report (i love sci fi noir) - The chariot race arena from Ben Hur - Last but not least the Mos Eisley Cantina from Starwars
Wojo 2,458 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Blume made it apparent he wants to see how well we can either follow directions or otherwise count to one, so I will play along. The treehouse in Disney's classic The Swiss Family Robinson.
KK 3,313 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Blume made it apparent he wants to see how well we can either follow directions or otherwise count to one, so I will play along. The treehouse in Disney's classic The Swiss Family Robinson.Hey, technically I did only list one to answer the question. I said Minas Tirith was my favourite. I just posted pics of all the other epic sets of Middle-Earth along with it.
KK 3,313 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Of course, because you knew that I was special, right?
Thor 9,362 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I forgot the LOTR sets (both location and stage). Add those to my list.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The carbon freezing chamber in TESBmy first thought, my 2nd thought was the fortress of solitude.
russds 8 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I wish there was more behind the scenes footage of this, to know what was actually built, and what was matte. amazing stuff.
Jay 46,244 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Wow. Great question, not sure how I can pick one right now. Some great sets have been posted so far.
Quintus 6,496 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Isn't that just a backdrop to a much bigger set? Which is indeed terrifically iconic.
A24 5,156 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The ones from the ALIEN films. And BLADE RUNNER. And JURASSIC PARK.These, minus Jurassic Park, of course.
Quintus 6,496 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 The T-Rex paddock - night time is pretty damn brilliant, actually.
Brónach 1,330 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 That's one of the coolest sets ever. That and free fall is much more interesting to look at than some sort of boring unexplained artificial gravity. And a ship seen that way looks much more like it can exist. To me it's almost hilarious how some films that try to do things look spectacular, and invent complicated designs, and then some random video from the ISS looks way better anyway. People expect ships at sea or tanks or trains or cars or planes to look like the real thing. But suddenly when it's about spaceships they're fed with something else.

Xander Harris 9,675 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Excuse me...- Enterprise-D- TOS movie series Enterprise- Millennium Falcon- '89 and Batman Returns Gotham Cities- RMS Titanic
Xander Harris 9,675 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 That thing is incredible. Can you believe they just tore this stuff down after the movies? This + the '89 Batmobile = pure sex.
indy4 160 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Ooooh, I change all my answers to the one Quint just posted.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Well if we're considering on location shooting sets these days, then this one takes the cake:
Xander Harris 9,675 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 I think my favorite part of the carbon freeze chamber is that tunnel underneath that Luke takes to the window room. I'd like that as the tunnel into my laundry room downstairs.
Trent Hoyt 13 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Nice call Trent, I was just going to post that.
indy4 160 Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 I prefer the more colorful bridge from the TV series.
