#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Thank you. Getting this for sure
Bryant Burnette 790 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Still no word on who's doing the opening song? Wonder if they're going sans song this time...
Jay 46,242 Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Still no news on a song, even the newest poster doesn't say anythinghttp://screencrush.com/skyfall-poster/
gkgyver 1,647 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Here is hoping for an instrumental opening titles. But no producer in his right mind is leaving out a marketable song. MrJosh 1
Kendal_Ozzel 36 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I'd be quite happy with Lady Gaga, actually.Still kinda baffling that the album is less than two months out and we don't have even a clue yet (beyond some old Adele hints—but even if they were true, that doesn't mean she was a lock).
MrJosh 1,205 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Maybe Thomas Newman will go retro and use John Barry's "007" theme.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I have heard and read this assumption for 10 years now, and it never happened. The 007 theme is an adventure theme very much in line with the camp action sequences of the Moore and later Connery films. And I very much doubt such a theme, with its warm tones, would be used and fit for a Craig movie.
publicist 4,650 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 How about a revitalization of "Underneath the Mango Tree"?
Richard P 5,302 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I can't wait to hear what approach he's taken.Newman has never done anything resembling a full-blown action sequence, and most of his more frenetic work I've heard with brass seemed rather out of place.I just hope he hasn't fallen back on electronics too much. The Adjustment Bureau sent me to sleep.
crocodile 9,724 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I'm both curious and afraid of what we might hear.Karol
alicebrallice 134 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 getting more and more excited for this.it's newman and mendes, people! I have hope.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I have faith Coolman will deliver. I guess it's been a while since he's been challenged.
publicist 4,650 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I'm both curious and afraid of what we might hear.KarolAfraid of what exactly? It's not that Bond films of the last 30 years were graced with sublime scores, so i don't see much at stake.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Actually, many of the Bond scores have been superb.
publicist 4,650 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Some of the songs (and themes) were sublime, a lot of the underscore is not very interesting (Barry included). Arnold wrote some good workmanlike scores in the last years, but great music it ain't. Of all the expanded ones, the stylish OHMSS seems the most successful to me.
alicebrallice 134 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 this is an excellent opportunity for newman to expose his talent and what he's capable of to an undoubtedly huge and broad crowd. it's a pretty big deal. I would just love to see him knock everyone's socks off!
nightscape94 968 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I'm not overly enamored with Newman, but I'm extremely interested to see how his style conforms to a Bond film.Tim
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I've heard there'll be lots of electronics.

Incanus 5,890 Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 As sad as I was that Arnold is leaving the franchise I am actually very interested to hear, what kind of sound Newman will bring to his Bond score. Is it entirely his own distinctive one or will he try to nod to the certain Bond score stylistics from John Barry era that Arnold kept very much in his music.
The Psycho Pianist 221 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 I'm pretty disappointed that Arnold isn't scoring Skyfall, he was developing quite a nice, consistent style for the reboot which will be completely lost unless Newman decides to copy it.
MrJosh 1,205 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Arnold will be back...if he's asked of course.
stewdog1 50 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Arnold will be back...if he's asked of course.I really wish he was doing star trek... Sent from Tapatalk
stewdog1 50 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Not a fan of Giacchino's effort?I like it, I just always thought Arnold is perfect for Trek. Sent from Tapatalk

Jay 46,242 Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 He would do a great job, I think.~~This is now available to pre-order on Amazon UKhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0096233ZW/It doesn't seem to be on Amazon US yet
Anthony 895 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Trumpet player Derek Watkins posted a picture of the brass section.
luke905 18 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 New featurette on the opening scene of the movie: [media=] Now, the music that plays in the background is very arnoldian, but I do not remember this piece in any Bond score of the English composer. That it may be the music of Newman?
The Psycho Pianist 221 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Classic Arnold muted trumpet usage
Admiral Holdo 16 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 This is why I'm excited for Newman's score - we have zero idea what to expect. With Arnold, we already have a pretty good idea what it's going to sound like, but Newman's never done a project like this before. It could be awful, but it could be fantastic. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
Neimoidian 15 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Now, the music that plays in the background is very arnoldian, but I do not remember this piece in any Bond score of the English composer. That it may be the music of Newman? It's mostly from Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough (Going Down/The Bunker). I don;t know the piece that opens the clip, it's definitely not Arnold's.
Neimoidian 15 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 May it be first piece of music from the upcoming soundtrack?http://www.iflymagazine.com/?locale=nl_nl&utm_source=reminder&utm_medium=mail&utm_content=nlnl&utm_campaign=ifly23&WT.mc_id=1928936|6659127|81779210|257912810|1023761&WT.tsrc=email&&&WT.tsrc=email#/bright/cocacola/It doesn't sound too much like Newman, on the other hand he is a versatile composer after all, so who knows. I can't say I would mind if the real soundtrack sounded like this.
Incanus 5,890 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 If that is really Newman then it sounds quite promising.
Richard P 5,302 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Not sure what to make of that. It doesn't quite sound as bold as what Arnold generally does.Wouldn't be surprised if it's Newman, and I do like it. Interestingly layered.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 It sounds very Arnoldian indeed.
publicist 4,650 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 As a FSM poster claimed, the sessions wrapped yesterday, so it's unlikely that it's TN.
crocodile 9,724 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 But the sessions commenced several, several weeks ago. Those woodwinds remind me of Newman. I hope that's him, cause I really like it.Karol
Admiral Holdo 16 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I know the Super 8 site had Giacchino's music on it before sessions for that wrapped.I'm digging the music. It's not completely divorced from the Barry-with-electronica style Arnold established, but there's subtlety and class. No bloated orchestrations, thank goodness.
gkgyver 1,647 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Hm, not bad if it is from Skyfall.Newman is a competent composer and I'm sure we will get a competent score. Not sure if that's a compliment though.
publicist 4,650 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Why directors keep on taking their favourite composers on jobs like this just to let them produce carbon copies of their predecessors remains an open question (it sounds a bit more polished than Arnbold, though).
Neimoidian 15 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I'm preety sure they used Arnold's music as a temp track for this movie.
publicist 4,650 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I remember a time when Martin, Hamlisch, Conti or Legrand seemed to have much greater leeway in producing original scores for the franchise. We have to wait how the whole thing plays out, the clip is very similar to Arnold's work....too similar.

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Of course not. I don't wanna hear something of which I donmt know what to expect.
