Romão 2,473 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Ra's nationality never was established (nor it was in the comics), so he could have her daughter brought up in France for all we know
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 The alias he used in Batman Begins is Henri Ducard.
KK 3,313 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Nolan takes complexity to yet another level!

A. A. Ron 2,485 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Ra's nationality never was established (nor it was in the comics), so he could have her daughter brought up in France for all we knowI read somewhere that the film's "rise" chant is in the Moroccan language. Seeing as French and Arabic are two of the most spoken languages in the north African barbary states, perhaps Talia was raised there.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,386 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 It's actually very plausible. But Nolan never states that. He trusts his audience to find the answers for themselves!
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I also remember that Ra's went with the name of Henri Ducard.
KK 3,313 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 According to Wikipedia, Bruce approached Ducard for training in Paris, so I assume he's among the French.
KK 3,313 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Put two and two together and its called an educated guess BloodBoal. It would also explain Cotillard's accent.
KK 3,313 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 OR Paris, Ontario in Canada. There both of our theories officially work now!
crocodile 9,724 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Put two and two together and its called an educated guess BloodBoal. It would also explain Cotillard's accent.Yeah, he was planning to cast her back in 2003. Karol
Henry B 51 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Ra's Al Ghul sounds like a faux-Arabic name designed to play on racist sentiments of the time. They cast a white guy in the role and a French woman as his daughter. The League of Shadows from Batman Begins was made up mostly of Chinese people. And Bane is white but has all sorts of different accents. Oh, and the old guys in the Lazarus pit sounded eastern European or Russian. There's really no ethnic continuity; Nolan just wanted to create a sense of "other" for the audience.
Romão 2,473 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Ra's Al Ghul is actual Arabic, I think. It means "The Demon's Head"
crocodile 9,724 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Demon's fellatio, apparently. Oh wait, that's Ra's.Geez, I'm lame these days.Karol
